(NARRATOR)>> TODAY ON DETROIT MUSCLE WE PLUG OUR UPGRADED POWER PLANT INTO OUR CADILLAC CTSV, AND THEN WE'LL SHOW YOU HOW TO ADD STRIPES ON OUR '72 CHEVELLE.

(MARC)>> HEY EVERYBODY, WELCOME TO DETROIT MUSCLE. TODAY WE'RE GONNA BE JUMPING BACK ON TO OUR 2005 CADILLAC CTSV. NOW LAST TIME WE WERE DOING SOME ENGINE UPGRADES AND WE FOUND OUT THAT SOMEBODY HAD REPLACED THE LS SIX WITH A SMALLER FIVETHREE TRUCK ENGINE. SO WE DECIDE TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. SO WE DITCHED THAT DINKY FIVETHREE FOR THIS SIX LITER IRON BLOCK TRUCK ENGINE THAT WE HAD ON THE SHELF. WE TORE DOWN THE TOP END AND REPLACED IT WITH SOME TRICK FLOW PARTS, AND WE REPLACED SOME OF THE WEAR ITEMS WITH SOME STUFF FROM ROCK AUTO DOT COM. NEXT THING WE NEED TO DO IS GET THIS THING DROPPED IN THE ENGINE BAY.

(TOMMY)>> AND WHILE HE'S DOING ALL THAT, CANOODLING WITH THAT FANCY PANTS CADILLAC I'M GONNA BE OVER DOING THE REAL WORK, WET SANDING THIS CHEVELLE. NOW WHAT WE'RE DOING IS WE'RE MAKING PREPARATIONS TO SPRAY ON SOME RACING STRIPES, BUT I'VE GOT QUITE A BIT WORK TO DO BEFORE WE CAN EVEN PULL THE TRIGGER, AND I'LL TELL YOU WHAT, I BET YOU THOSE RACING STRIPES ARE GONNA ADD AT LEAST 37, 38 REAL HORSEPOWER TO THIS OLD CHEVROLET.

(MARC)>> NOW WE'VE GOT OUR CADILLAC OVER HERE ON THE LIFT AND WE'VE GOT OUR ENGINE READY TO GO IN, BUT THERE'S SOMETHING WE WANT TO PUT IN THAT ENGINE BAY BEFORE WE DROP THAT ENGINE IN, AND THAT'S THESE LONG TUBE HEADERS THAT WE GOT FROM SUMMIT RACING. THEY'RE MADE BY KOOKS AND THEY'RE INCH AND SEVENEIGHTHS PRIMARIES. SO THEY'RE GONNA WORK WITH THOSE NEW CYLINDER HEADS A LOT BETTER THEIR THREE INCH COLLECTORS. NOW THIS CAR WASN'T MADE FOR A VEIGHT ENGINE. THAT THING WAS JUST SHOE HORNED IN THERE FROM THE FACTORY TO BEGIN WITH. SO IT'S A LOT EASIER TO GET THESE THINGS IN THERE RIGHT NOW.

ALL RIGHT, TIME TO GET THAT SIX LITER PLUGGED IN. THIS ONE'S NOT TOUGH TO DO. WE'LL ZIP DOWN A COUPLE OF HEADER BOLTS TO GET THEM IN PLACE. THEN WE'LL JUMP UNDERNEATH THE CAR AND RUN IN THE MOTOR MOUNTS. [ drill spinning ]

(MARC)>> NOW WE CAN START GETTING THE FRONT DRIVE ASSEMBLY ATTACHED TO OUR NEW ENGINE, AND WITH THAT DONE WE CAN GET THE INTAKE PLUGGED INTO PLACE. THESE BOLTS DO HAVE A TORQUE PATTERN. SO MAKE SURE YOU FOLLOW IT WHEN YOU INSTALL THEM. NOW WE CAN GET OUR INJECTORS IN, BOLT THEM DOWN, AND PLUG THEM IN. THE NEXT THING WE'RE GONNA ADDRESS IS OUR IGNITION SYSTEM. NOW INSTEAD OF REINSTALLING THESE ORIGINAL LOOKING STOCK COILS, WE DECIDED TO GO WITH THESE GM BLASTER COILS THAT WE GOT FROM MSD. THEY'VE GOT A HIGH VOLTAGE COPPER TERMINAL, AND THESE ARE DIRECT BOLT IN. SO THEY'RE EASY TO INSTALL ON YOUR RIDE. THESE THINGS ARE MADE FOR A HIGH PERFORMANCE CAR, LIKE THAT HOPPED UP SIX LITER THAT WE JUST PUT IN OUR CTSV. TO COMPLIMENT THOSE WE WENT WITH THESE MSD SUPER CONDUCTOR WIRES. THEY'RE EIGHT AND A HALF MILLIMETER AND THEY'RE A DIRECT FIT AS WELL, AND TO GET ALL THAT SPARK TO THE COMBUSTION CHAMBER WE DECIDED TO GO WITH THESE ETHREE SPARK PLUGS. THEY'RE GONNA ALLOW US TO OPTIMIZE EACH COMBUSTION CYCLE AND ALLOW US TO MAKE MORE POWER WITH LESS FUEL AND FEWER EMISSIONS. WE'LL USE SOME PERMATEX ANTISEIZE LUBRICANT TO MAKE SURE THE THREADS DON'T GET GALLED ON THOSE ALUMINUM HEADS. THEN WE'LL INSTALL OUR COILS AND FOLLOW THAT UP WITH THE PLUG WIRES. THE STOCK THROTTLE BODY IS UP NEXT, WHICH IS JUST A FEW BOLTS AND A PLUG. THEN WE'LL DROP THE RADIATOR BACK INTO PLACE.

(MARC)>> THE LAST LITTLE TWEAK WE'RE GONNA MAKE TO OUR CADILLAC HERE TO MAYBE ADD A LITTLE BIT OF EXTRA POWER IS GONNA BE THIS COLD AIR KIT THAT WE GOT FROM SUMMIT RACING. IT'S MADE BY K&N AND IT'S GONNA FREE UP POWER OVER THAT STOCK AIR BOX, ESPECIALLY CONSIDERING WE ADDED SOME DISPLACEMENT HERE WITH THIS SIX LITER, AND ANOTHER COOL THING IS IT'S 50 STATE LEGAL.

AFTER THE COLD AIR KIT IS IN WE CAN REPLACE THE ENGINE COVER, AS WELL AS THE STRUT BRACE, AND SHE'S INSTALLED.

(TOMMY)>> HEY GUYS, WELL WE'VE TOUCHED ON HOW TO RUN AND OPERATE A TORCH A TIME OR TWO, AND WE'RE GONNA CONTINUE DOING A LITTLE BIT MORE OF THAT TODAY, BUT WE'RE ACTUALLY GONNA CUT SOME METAL. NOW BEFORE YOU GET TOO CARRIED AWAY THERE'S A FEW TIPS THAT YOU SHOULD USE TO KEEP YOU OUT OF HARM'S WAY. NOW ONE OF THE MAIN THINGS THAT YOU WANT TO PROTECT, AND THAT IS YOUR EYES. NOW THIS LENS IN THIS THING HAS GOT A NUMBER THREE OR A NUMBER FOUR IN IT, AND THEY MAKE THEM AT ALL DIFFERENT TYPE OF RANGES, USUALLY FROM ABOUT THREE TO 13. NOW WHENEVER YOU'RE USING A CUTTING TORCH YOU'LL WANT TO USE A THREE OR A FOUR, AND IF YOU WERE DOING MIG WELDING OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT IT'S USUALLY NINE TO A 13. ANOTHER THING THAT YOU WANT TO MAKE SURE TO PROTECT AND THAT IS YOUR HANDS. YOU'RE FOOLING WITH MOLTED METAL HERE, AND ONCE YOU GET LIKE THAT STUFF FLYING AROUND, IT LANDS ON YOUR SKIN OR IN YOUR SHOE, MAN THAT STUFF IS GONNA BURN YOU, AND THAT'S ANOTHER IDEA. MAKE SURE THAT YOU'RE USING SOMETHING COVERED ON YOUR FEET, LIKE A PAIR OF BOOTS OR SOMETHING. IF YOU'RE WEARING TENNIS SHOES YOU AIN'T GONNA GET THAT SHOE OFF FAST ENOUGH, I'M HERE TO TELL YOU. BEEN THERE, DONE THAT. NOW WE'VE ALREADY WALKED YOU THROUGH KIND OF SETTING UP THE TANKS AND THE GAUGES, AND ALSO ADJUSTING THE TORCH. SO WE'RE GONNA GO AHEAD AND JUMP RIGHT IN TO CUTTING SOME METAL, BUT BEFORE I FIRE THIS THING UP I WANT TO SHOW YOU THE PROCESS THAT'S FIXING TO HAPPEN. FIRST THING YOU'RE GONNA DO IS LAY THE TORCH UP THERE AND LET THE EDGE OF THE METAL GET NICE AND HOT. NOW IT'LL START TO CHANGE COLORS, AND ONCE IT TURNS PRETTY MUCH RED YOU'LL PULL THE OXYGEN, TRIGGER IT ON, AND THEN YOU'LL START TO BE ABLE TO CUT ACROSS. NOW WHENEVER YOU START CUTTING YOU'LL WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT YOU LEAN IT BACK IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION THAT YOU'RE GONNA BE CUTTING IN. WHAT THAT DOES, THAT ALLOWS THE TORCH TO PREHEAT THE METAL AND IT'LL MAKE IT CUT A LITTLE QUICKER. WITH ALL THAT SAID, WE CAN PUT ON OUR SAFETY GEAR, FIRE THIS THING UP, AND CUT SOME METAL. WE'LL DIAL IN THE OXYGEN AND ACETYLENE LIKE WE SHOWED YOU LAST TIME, AND WITH IT PROPERLY SET UP LET'S CUT SOME STEEL. YOU'LL SEE IT START TO TURN ORANGE JUST A BIT UNDER THE FLAME. AS IT DOES WE'LL HIT THE LEVER ON THE TORCH AND BLOW THAT STEEL OUT OF THE WAY. HERE'S A PIECE OF TRIVIA FOR YOU. THE LINE THAT YOU'RE CREATING BY REMOVING THE STEEL IS CALLED A "KERF", AND DON'T FORGET IN YOUR MEASUREMENTS, WHEN YOU USE A TORCH TO CUT SOMETHING, YOU'RE REMOVING ABOUT AN EIGHTH TO A QUARTER INCH OF MATERIAL AS YOU CUT.

ALSO YOU WANT TO KEEP THE TIP OF YOUR TORCH ABOUT AN EIGHTH OF AN INCH, MAYBE THREESIXTEENTHS FROM THE SURFACE. NOW THAT WAS JUST A SIMPLE SLICE AND WE'LL DIG A LITTLE DEEPER LATER DOWN THE ROAD, BUT Y'ALL GONNA HAVE TO COME BACK AND SEE US.

(NARRATOR)>> COMING UP WE'LL SHOW YOU HOW TO CUSTOMIZE AN EXHAUST KIT TO FIT HEADERS. THEN IT'S TIME TO STRIPE THE CHEVELLE.

(MARC)>> HEY EVERYBODY WELCOME BACK. WHILE YOU WERE GONE WE GOT OUR CADILLAC UP IN THE AIR AND WE GOT A BRAND NEW CLUTCH INSTALLED THAT WE GOT FROM SUMMIT RACING. IT'S A HIGH PERFORMANCE CLUTCH AND IT ELIMINATES THAT DUAL MASS FLYWHEEL THAT CAME ON OUR CADDY FROM THE FACTORY. IT'S GONNA PROVIDE A LOT MORE BITE TO HELP TRANSFER THAT POWER TO THE BACK OF THE CAR WHERE WE WANT IT. ALSO GOT THE BELL HOUSING INSTALLED, AND IN ORDER TO GET IT IN THERE WE HAD TO LOOSEN THE HEADER BOLTS, BUT THAT'S NO BIG DEAL. WE'LL JUST TIGHTEN THOSE UP WHEN WE GET BACK UP THERE LATER. THE TRANSMISSION'S READY TO GO IN. WE'VE GOT A BRAND NEW SLAVE CYLINDER AND THROW OUT BEARING ON HERE, BUT BEFORE WE STICK THAT UP IN THE HOLE, THE INSULATION FROM THE FACTORY WAS FALLING APART. SO WE JUST TORE ALL OF THAT OUT, AND WE'RE REPLACING IT WITH SOME OF THIS BOOM MAT THAT WE GOT FROM DEI. THIS IS A CINCH TO INSTALL. JUST USE THE ADHESIVE BACKING TO STICK IT TO THE SURFACE, AND WE'VE GOT A ROLLER TO SMOOTH IT OUT AND MAKE IT LOOK. NOW FOR THAT SIX SPEED.

WE'LL GET IT BOLTED INTO PLACE, AND FOLLOW UP WITH THE CROSS MEMBER AND TRANS MOUNT.

WELL WE'VE GOT OUR TRANSMISSION ALL BUTTONED UP NOW, AND THE NEXT THING WOULD BE THE DRIVE SHAFT BUT WE WANT TO ADDRESS SOMETHING BACK HERE AT THE REAR. SOME OF YOU FOLKS HAVE ALREADY NOTED, THESE FIRST GEN CTSV'S HAVE A PROBLEM BREAKING THE DIFF, AND THAT'S BECAUSE ALL THAT HORSEPOWER UP FRONT. THINGS START MOVING AROUND BACK HERE AND THE CASE DOESN'T HOLD UP. WELL THERE IS A SOLUTION FOR THAT, AND THAT IS THIS BRACE, PINION SUPPORT BRACE, THAT WE GOT FROM SUMMIT. JUST ATTACHES USING THE STOCK BOLT HOLES, COMES WITH SOME LONGER BOLTS, THAT'S ALL THERE IS TO IT. WE'LL REMOVE THESE FOUR PINION SUPPORT HOUSING BOLTS, AND THEN LOOSEN THE FRONT CENTER SECTION MOUNTING BOLT. WITH THOSE REMOVED, WE'LL PUT THE BRACE IN PLACE AND THOSE NEW LONGER BOLTS WILL ATTACH IT TO THE CENTER SECTION.

[ drill spinning ]

(MARC)>> NOW WE CAN GET THE DRIVESHAFT REINSTALLED, WHICH IS A SIMPLE MATTER OF A FEW BOLTS.

WELL IT'S TIME TO MOVE ON TO THE EXHAUST SYSTEM ON OUR CADILLAC. SO WE WENT TO MAGNAFLOW FOR THIS FULL KIT, AND WITH IT CAME RICH WAITUS FROM MAGNAFLOW. RICH WHAT DO WE HAVE HERE?

(RICH)>> SO JUST LIKE ALL OF OUR STANDARD KITS WE START WITH THE TIP. WE'VE GONE WITH A SLIGHTLY LARGER TIP THAN WHAT YOU'D FIND ON THE STOCK ONE. GIVE IT A SPECIAL LOOK THERE. WE GO THROUGH STRAIGHT THROUGH MUFFLER WHERE WE'VE ADDED JUST ENOUGH PACKING TO GET RID OF SOME OF THAT INTERIOR NOISE BUT STILL GIVE YOU THAT GREAT LS SOUND OUTSIDE. OF COURSE TO MAINTAIN THAT POWER WE KEEP THAT SAME TWO AND A HALF INCH DIAMETER THROUGH STAINLESS STEEL MANDREL BENT PIPE, AND ALL THE WAY THROUGH OUR TRUEX TO REALLY GET THE MAXIMUM OUT OF THAT LS MOTOR, AND THEN WE TERMINATE RIGHT BEFORE THE BACK OF THE FACTORY CATALYTIC CONVERTERS.

(MARC)>> BUT OUR CAR HAS LONG TUBE HEADERS. SO WHAT DOES THAT MEAN FOR US?

(RICH)>> WELL FORTUNATELY WILL USUALLY TERMINATE BEFORE THIS, BUT IF YOU'RE PUTTING CATS BACK IN SOME OF THEM MAKE CONNECTIONS THAT ACTUALLY MATE TO CERTAIN EXHAUST SYSTEMS, BUT WORST CASE SCENARIO WE MAY HAVE TO DO A LITTLE BIT IF FABRICATION.

(MARC)>> WELL THERE'S ONLY ONE WAY TO FIND OUT. LET'S GET THIS THING ON.

(RICH)>> WELL WHAT WE'LL HAVE TO DO DIFFERENT FROM THE INSTRUCTIONS IS INSTALL FROM THE BACK TO THE FRONT SINCE WE DON'T HAVE THAT MID PIECE TO REALLY START THE SAME WAY HERE.

(MARC)>> OKAY, COOL, LET'S DO THIS.

(RICH)>> OKAY, SO YOU CAN SEE HERE, OUR END POINT THAT DOESN'T QUITE REACH OUR HEADERS. SO THIS IS WHERE WE'RE EITHER GONNA HAVE TO DO SOME FABRICATION OR USE A CONNECTION PIPE PROVIDED BY THE AFTERMARKET HEADER COMPANY.

(MARC)>> WELL THE HEADER COMPANY, KOOKS, ACTUALLY SUPPLIED THESE FOR US AND THESE ARE MADE FOR AFTERMARKET EXHAUST LIKE THIS.

(RICH)>> OKAY, WELL LET'S PUT IT UP THERE AND TAKE A LOOK, AND IT LOOKS LIKE THEY'VE DONE A PRETTY GOOD JOB. WE'RE GONNA BE PRETTY CLOSE HERE. THERE'S GONNA BE VERY LITTLE FABRICATION. LOOKS LIKE A QUICK CUT, AND BASICALLY WE'LL BE WELDING IT RIGHT BACK UP TO OUR XPIPE.

(MARC)>> WOW THAT'S EASY. RICH IS GONNA CUT DOWN THE XPIPE TO ACCOMMODATE THE CATS THAT WE'LL BE INSTALLING. ONCE THE FIT IS GOOD HE'LL TACK THEM TOGETHER UNDER THE CAR WITH THE MIG. THEN MOVE TO THE TABLE AND TIG WELD EVERYTHING TOGETHER.

ALL RIGHT RICH, THAT LOOKS GREAT. THANKS A BUNCH FOR COMING OUT. I'VE GOT THE UPSTREAM OTWO SENSORS IN. SO NOW ALL I NEED TO DO IS GET THE DOWN STREAM ONES IN, DOUBLE CHECK ALL THE CLAMPS, AND WE'RE GOOD.

(RICH)>> YEAH, I JUST CHECKED THE TIPS. SO WE'RE PRETTY MUCH LINED UP AND READY TO GO.

(MARC)>> AWESOME, THANKS A BUNCH.

(RICH)>> YOU GOT IT, TAKE CARE.

(MARC)>> SWITCHING LIGHT SOURCES IS AS QUICK AS PULLING A COLLAR WITH THIS FAST CONNECTING LIGHT KIT FROM MATCO TOOLS. INSTEAD OF USING A TRADITIONAL SCREW IN HEAD, IT USES A QUICK CONNECT FITTING TO SWITCH FROM A 550 LUMENS FLASHLIGHT TO A 500 LUMENS SLIM LIGHT, WHICH ARE BOTH INCLUDED WITH THE KIT. ALSO INCLUDED IS AN EXTRA BATTERY WITH THE CHARGER, A HOOK, AND A NYLON CASE FOR EASY STORAGE AND PORTABILITY.

(NARRATOR)>> STILL AHEAD WE'RE GONNA FIRE UP OUR CADDY AND TAKE HER FOR A SPIN.

(MARC)>> HEY EVERYBODY, WELCOME BACK. WHILE YOU WERE GONE WE GOT OUR EXHAUST SYSTEM BUTTONED UP ON OUR CADILLAC AND WE GOT IT BACK ON THE FLOOR. WE'RE ALMOST READY TO FIRE IT UP FOR THE FIRST TIME BUT WE NEED TO DO A COUPLE OF THINGS FIRST. ONE, WE LOST ALL OF OUR POWER STEERING FLUID WHEN WE ADDED THAT NEW HOSE. SO WE'RE GONNA GO WITH THIS NEW MAX EZ FLUID FROM ROYAL PURPLE. WE'RE ALSO GONNA ADD ENGINE OIL AND A FILTER, ALSO FROM ROYAL PURPLE. WE'RE GOING WITH THIS HPS HIGH PERFORMANCE STREET OIL, AND WE'RE ALSO GOING TO ADD A BATTERY, BUT FIRST WE NEED TO GET THIS OIL AND FILTER ON. WE'LL USE SOME FIVEW-30 OIL, WHICH IS WHAT GM RECOMMENDS FOR THESE ENGINES, AND WE'LL TOP OFF THE POWER STEERING RESERVOIR.

WELL THE LAST THING WE NEED TO DO BEFORE WE CAN FIRE UP OUR CADDY IS TO INSTALL THIS NEW BATTERY. NOW THIS IS FROM ODYSSEY AND IT IS HEAVY. NOW SOME BATTERIES HAVE HIGH PERFORMANCE IN THAT THEY HAVE HIGHER CRANKING AMPS. OTHERS HAVE DEEP CYCLE RESERVE POWER. THIS THING HAS BOTH. THAT'S BECAUSE THE LEAD PLATES THAT ARE IN HERE ARE 99.99 PERCENT PURE, AND THAT ALLOWS YOU TO MAKE THE PLATES THINNER. THINNER PLATES MEANS YOU CAN STACK MORE OF THEM INSIDE OF HERE. MORE PLATES MEANS MORE POWER. A LITTLE PERMATEX BATTERY PROTECTOR ON THE TERMINALS WILL PREVENT CORROSION. WE'LL PUT IT ON BOTH THE INSIDE AND THE OUTSIDE OF THEM. OF COURSE WE'LL NEED A LITTLE COOLANT BEFORE WE CAN FIRE THIS THING UP.

BLUH, BLUH, BLUH, BLUH, AND SHE FIRED RIGHT UP. IT'S STILL GOT THE STOCK TUNE IN IT, WHICH WILL NEED TO BE CHANGED A LITTLE BIT FOR THE AFTERMARKET PARTS AND ADDITIONAL DISPLACEMENT THAT WE HAVE NOW, BUT ONCE WE'VE BURPED ALL THE FLUIDS WE'LL GO AHEAD AND TAKE HER FOR A LITTLE SPIN.

THAT'S A LOT QUICKER. SO WHAT'S REALLY COOL ABOUT WHAT WE DID TO THIS CAR IS, THIS IS A CADILLAC. SO THE WAY IT CAME FROM THE FACTORY IT WAS VERY REFINED, VERY QUIET, NOT A LOT OF VIBRATION, AND CERTAINLY NOT A LOT OF NOISE. WHEN YOU TAKE THOSE FACTORY PARTS OFF AND PUT AFTERMARKET PARTS ON LIKE WE'VE DONE. IT REALLY WAKES IT UP AND YOU CAN HEAR AND FEEL THAT EXTRA POWER.

(TOMMY)>> WHEN IT COMES TO PUTTING A FUEL ADDITIVE INTO YOUR DAILY DRIVER OR YOUR HOT ROD SOME PEOPLE WORRY ABOUT DOING MORE HARM THAN GOOD. WELL THAT'S NOT THE CASE WHEN IT COMES TO SEAFOAM MOTOR TREATMENT. THERE'S NOTHING IN SEAFOAM THAT CAN HARM YOUR ENGINE WHEN YOU'RE USING IT AS A FUEL ADDITIVE. IN FACT THE MORE YOU ADD, THE BETTER IT CLEANS AND LUBRICATES THE FUEL SYSTEM. YOU CAN MIX THIS STUFF IN AS MUCH TO ONE TO ONE IN A GASOLINE ENGINE. ONCE IT'S IN THERE, IT CLEANS DEPOSITS FROM CARBURETOR SURFACES, INJECTOR NOZZLES, AND ANYTHING IN THE COMBUSTION CHAMBER.

(NARRATOR)>> UP NEXT, HOW TO LAY DOWN STRIPES ON EXISTING PAINT.

(TOMMY)>> WHILE MARC'S BEEN BUSY PULLING WRENCHES ON THAT CADILLAC THIS IS WHAT I'VE BEEN DOING, SPRAYING ON SOME FANCY STRIPES ON THE TAIL END OF OUR CHEVELLE. NOW WHAT WE'RE GONNA DO TODAY IS SPRAY SOME UP HERE ON THE HOOD, AND ONE NICE THING ABOUT THE INFORMATION THAT WE'RE GONNA TELL YOU. IF YOUR CAR'S ALL FINISHED UP AND YOU WANT TO JAZZ IT UP A BIT YOU JUST NEED TO APPLY WHAT WE'RE GONNA TELL YOU. FIRST ORDER OF BUSINESS, WE'RE GONNA HAVE TO DO SOME SANDING. NOW YOU DON'T WANT TO GET TOO AGGRESSIVE WITH YOUR SAND PAPER BECAUSE IF YOU'RE SPRAYING ON A METALLIC OR A PEARL LIKE WE ARE, WELL THOSE STROKES THAT YOU SAND IN THERE, THEY'RE GROOVES ESSENTIALLY, CAN TRANSFER THROUGH IT AND YOU'LL SEE EVERY STROKE THAT YOU MAKE, BUT YOU ALSO DON'T WANT TO GET TOO FINE WITH YOUR PAPER. IF YOU SAND IT TOO SLICK WELL YOU'LL RUN INTO ADHESION PROBLEMS. WHAT WE'RE GONNA BE USING IS SOME 600 AND A WHOLE LOT OF ELBOW GREASE. IT'S ALWAYS A GOOD IDEA TO SOAK YOUR PAPER FOR A LITTLE WHILE TO LET IT SOFTEN UP. TO HELP DO SOME OF THIS SANDING I'M GONNA BE USING THIS SOFT FLEXIBLE BLOCK. THIS'LL HELP YOU TO PREVENT CUTTING GROOVES AND THAT KIND OF THING INTO YOUR SURFACE AS YOU'RE SANDING. IF YOU USE YOUR FINGERS, WELL YOU MAY RUN INTO THAT. ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS WRAP YOUR PAPER IN HERE, GRAB YOU A LITTLE BIT OF WATER, AND GET STARTED.

NOW WHENEVER YOU'RE DOING SANDING LIKE THIS I LIKE TO DO IT IN LIKE A GRID PATTERN, MEANING YOU MOVE ACROSS, MOVE BACK OR FORWARD, AND THEN BACK ACROSS, AND SO ON AND SO FORTH. WHAT THAT DOES, THAT KEEPS YOU FROM MISSING SOME SPOTS. THE REASON YOU HAVE TO SAND IS THAT THIS CLEAR HAS HAD TIME TO CURE, AND THE STRIPES WON'T BE ABLE TO ADHERE TO THE SURFACE UNLESS YOU SAND IT DOWN, AND YOU ALSO WANT TO PAINT ON TOP OF A FLAT SURFACE SO YOU'RE REMOVING ANY TEXTURE OR GRAIN. NOW WE'LL DRAG THE HOOD INTO THE BOOTH AND START LAYING OUT OUR STRIPES. WE'LL TAPE UP EVERYTHING THAT WE DON'T WANT TO BE WHITE.

WITH THAT DONE WE CAN MIX UP OUR PAINT AND GET TO SPRAYING.

WE'LL DO TWO COATS OF WHITE AND TWO COATS OF PEARL AND CLEAR BASE. THEN WE CAN UNMASK THE WHOLE HOOD IN PREPARATION FOR CLEAR COAT.

WE'LL PLY FIVE COATS OF CLEAR ON THE HOOD, WHICH'LL GIVE IT A NICE DEEP SHINE AND KEEP IT PROTECTED.

WELL WE'VE GOT IT CLEAR COATED AND IT TURNED OUT PRETTY SLICK. ALL IT TOOK WAS A LITTLE BIT OF CLEAR COAT, SOME TAPE, AND SOME CREATIVITY. YOU GUYS MIGHT GIVE IT A SHOT, SEE WHAT YOU CAN COME UP WITH.

(MARC)>> IF YOU'RE LOOKING FOR A UNIQUE AND HIGH QUALITY SHIFT HANDLE FOR YOUR MANUAL TRANSMISSION THEN AMERICAN POWERTRAIN HAS GOT YOU COVERED WITH ITS FULL LINE OF FINCH PERFORMANCE SHIFTERS AND ACCESSORIES. THEY OFFER THESE SHIFTERS IN A VARIETY OF SIZES, SHAPES, AND FINISHES, AND YOU CAN EVEN CHOOSE THE KNOB THAT SUITS YOUR NEEDS, LIKE THIS CNC MACHINED BILLET KNOB, OR THIS COOL GUN METAL GRAY BILLET BALL. THEY EVEN OFFER RINGS AND BOOTS, AND THEY COME WITH A STEEL FLANGE THAT YOU CAN WELD OR BOLT TO YOUR TUNNEL, MAKES IT EASIER TO INSTALL. WELL THAT'S ALL THE TIME FOR TODAY. SO AS ALWAYS, IF YOU CAN'T FIND'EM, GRIND'EM.
