(MARC)>> HEY GUYS, WELCOME TO DETROIT MUSCLE. WE RECENTLY INTRODUCED A NEW PROJECT THAT WE'RE CALLING THE POWER STOP ULTIMATE MUSTANG. WE'VE TEAMED UP WITH VAUGHN GITTEN JUNIOR FOR THE BUILD, AND HE WAS HERE LAST TIME HELPING US INSTALL SOME HOT SUSPENSION AND BRAKING COMPONENTS THAT WILL HELP THIS SLIP OR GRIP ON THE TRACK WHEN HE GETS BEHIND THE WHEEL.

(TOMMY)>> NOW WITH ALL THAT DONE WE'RE GONNA ADD A LITTLE BIT MORE GIDDY UP TO OUR PONY HERE, AND WE'RE GONNA DO THAT WITH A POWER ADDER. NOW THIS THING STRAIGHT OUT OF THE BOX IS 435 HORSE, AND THAT AIN'T NO SLOUCH, BUT OUR PLANS? WELL WE'RE LOOKING FOR 600 OR 650.

(MARC)>> THE WAY WE'RE GONNA ACCOMPLISH THAT IS WITH THIS SUPERCHARGER KIT THAT WE GOT FROM VORTECH. AT THE CENTER IS THIS VSEVEN JT TRIM CENTRIFUGAL SUPERCHARGER. IT'S CAPABLE OF FLOWING UP TO 1,450 CFM, AND 27 POUNDS OF BOOST. YOU DO THE MATH, THIS THING WILL HELP YOU MAKE UP TO 1,000 HORSEPOWER. TO MOUNT THAT BIG SUPERCHARGER TO THE ENGINE WE'RE GONNA BE USING THIS BRACKET ASSEMBLY HERE THAT COMES WITH THE KIT. IT COMES WITH ALL THE HARDWARE NECESSARY TO MOUNT IT AS WELL AS THE PULLEYS AND BELT. NOW AS FAR AS THE REST OF THE SYSTEM GOES WE NEED TO ADAPT OUR EVAPORATIVE EMISSIONS SYSTEM AS WELL AS OUR COOLING SYSTEMS. IT EVEN COMES WITH THIS NEW COOLANT RESERVOIR. ON THE AIR INLET SIDE IT COMES WITH A NEW FILTER THAT GOES INTO YOUR FACTORY AIR BOX. THIS TUBE THAT ADAPTS YOUR AIR BOX TO THE SUPERCHARGER AS WELL AS THE COUPLERS. ONCE THAT AIR CHARGE IS PRESSURIZED THROUGH THAT SUPERCHARGER IT NEEDS TO GET COOL, AND IT'S GONNA DO THAT THROUGH THIS AIR TO AIR INTERCOOLER, WHICH IS GONNA MOUNT UP FRONT, AND TO CONNECT ALL THE DOTS THE KIT COMES WITH ALL THE SILICONE COUPLERS AND TUBING NEEDED FOR INSTALLATION. ONE MORE THING WE GOT THAT DIDN'T COME WITH THE KIT IS THIS FUEL PUMP VOLTAGE BOOSTER. WHAT THAT'S GONNA DO IS ALLOW OUR FUEL PUMP TO SEND THE AMOUNT OF FUEL WE NEED TO SUPPORT THIS LEVEL OF HORSEPOWER. WELL NOW ALL WE NEED TO DO IS GET IT ON THE CAR.

(TOMMY)>> WE'LL START BY REMOVING THIS LOWER CLOSE OUT PANEL AND GET THE PET COCK OPENED UP TO DRAIN THE RADIATOR. WHILE THAT'S DRAINING WE'LL GET THE FRONT FASCIA REMOVED AS WELL AS THE STOCK AIR BOX.

THE COOLANT TANK IS NEXT, AND WITH THAT OUT OF THE WAY THE UPPER HOSE CAN BE TAKEN OUT. THE RADIATOR HOLD DOWN BRACKETS CAN BE UNBOLTED, AND THE RADIATOR WILL JUST SLIDE RIGHT OUT OF THE TOP.

THE WATER PUMP AND ALTERNATOR BELT NEEDS TO BE REMOVED. WE'LL BE REPLACING THIS WITH A LONGER ONE IN JUST A BIT. THE THROTTLE BODY CAN BE UNPLUGGED AND UNBOLTED FROM ITS HOME ON THE FRONT OF THE INTAKE MANIFOLD. THIS STRUT TOWER BRACE NEEDS TO GO TO MAKE ROOM FOR US TO GET TO THE COILS. THE COIL COVER NEEDS TO GO, AND THE COILS UNBOLT AND UNPLUG FROM THE ENGINE. THIS ALLOWS US TO GET THOSE STOCK SPARK PLUGS OUT. WE'LL GAP OUR NEW ONES TO 25 THOUSANDTHS AND GET THEM INSTALLED.

(TOMMY)>> THREE SPECIFIC BOLTS NEED TO BE REMOVED FROM THE TIMING COVER ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE ENGINE WHERE OUR SUPERCHARGER'S MOUNTING BRACKETS WILL GO. THESE TWO STUDS GO ON THE BOTTOM ALONG WITH A COUPLE OF SPACERS. THE BRACKET ASSEMBLY CAN BE SLID INTO PLACE...

...AND USING SOME PERMATEX BLUE THREAD LOCKER, TIGHTENED DOWN.

THE SUPERCHARGER CAN THEN BE BOLTED TO THE BRACKET.

WELL WE FINALLY GOT THE BELT ON THIS THING, AND THE SUPERCHARGER HUNG OFF THE FRONT SIDE OF THE ENGINE. NOW THE NEXT THING WE'RE GONNA HAVE TO DO IS QUITE A BIT OF PLUMBING, STARTING WITH THIS ADAPTER FOR THE THROTTLE BODY.

(MARC)>> THIS BRACKET, ALONG WITH THE NEW BOLTS, CLOCKS THE THROTTLE BODY 180 DEGREES FROM ITS STOCK ORIENTATION. WELL THE NEXT STEP IS GONNA BE TO INSTALL THIS INTERCOOLER. NOW THIS COMES WITH THE KIT, AND THIS IS AN AIR TO AIR INTERCOOLER, MEANING THAT THE AIR CHARGE GOES THROUGH HERE, AND IT'S COOLED BY THE AMBIENT AIR PASSING OVER THESE FINS. COOLER AIR IS DENSER AIR, WHICH MEANS IT'LL HELP MAKE MORE POWER.

(TOMMY)>> THIS THING JUST SLIDES RIGHT UP BEHIND THE BUMPER BRACE AND ATTACHES TO IT USING THE INCLUDED HARDWARE. THE CHARGE AIR TUBES WILL CONNECT THE DOTS BETWEEN THE SUPERCHARGER'S OUTLET AND THE INLET OF THE INTERCOOLER. WE'RE USING THESE TBOLT CLAMPS TO MAKE SURE THE COUPLERS STAY ON NICE AND TIGHT. THE BYPASS VALVE BOLTS IN NEXT, FOLLOWED BY THE UPPER TUBE, WHICH CONNECTS TO THE OUTLET ON THE BLOWER.

(MARC)>> THE SAME GOES FOR THE TUBES THAT TAKE THE AIR FROM THE INTERCOOLER TO THE ENGINE BAY.

THE STOCK MASS AIR METER GOES INTO THIS NEW MAF HOUSING.

THE HOUSING AND INLET ELBOW CAN BE INSTALLED TOGETHER AND TIGHTENED DOWN. [ air ratchet spinning ]

(TOMMY)>> LIKE MARC MENTIONED EARLIER, THE KIT THAT WE'RE INSTALLING INTO OUR MUSTANG HERE IS A TUNER KIT, AND WHAT THAT REFERS TO IS IT DOESN'T COME WITH INJECTORS AND IT DOESN'T COME WITH A HAND HELD THAT YOU'D END UP REFLASHING YOUR ECU WITH, BUT WHAT THAT DOES ALLOW YOU TO DO IS TAILOR FIT YOUR COMPONENTS FOR WHATEVER POWER LEVEL YOU'RE LOOKING FOR. NOW WE'RE GONNA BE INSTALLING A SET OF THESE TRICK FLOW 1,000cc INJECTORS INTO OUR MUSTANG. THEY SIMPLY BOLT INTO THE PLACE OF THE ORIGINALS AND IT'S THAT EASY.

(MARC)>> WE'LL GET THE FUEL RAIL UNBOLTED AND DISCONNECTED FROM THE ENGINE, AND TAKE IT OVER TO THE BENCH. THE STOCK INJECTORS JUST POP RIGHT OUT, AND THE NEW ONES TAKE THEIR PLACE. THE FUEL RAIL CAN GO BACK ON THE ENGINE, AND IT GETS TIGHTENED DOWN.

(MARC)>> OUR NEWLY MODIFIED PCV HOSE GOES ON, FOLLOWED BY THE NEW COOLANT RESERVOIR, COOLANT HOSES, AND THE COOLANT ITSELF.

THE BREATHER HOSE GOES ON, AS WELL AS OUR MODIFIED AIR BOX AND INTAKE ASSEMBLY.

(NARRATOR)>> COMING UP, WE'VE STILL GOT LOTS OF GO FAST GOODIES TO THROW ON OUR MUSTANG, INCLUDING SHIFTER UPGRADES AS WELL AS A HIGH FLOW EXHAUST.

(MARC)>> HEY EVERYBODY, WELCOME BACK. WHILE YOU WERE GONE WE WENT AHEAD AND GOT THE BODY PANELS BOLTED ONTO THE FRONT OF OUR MUSTANG AND WE'RE READY TO MOVE ON UNDERNEATH THE CAR. THE REASON WE'RE DOING THAT IS BECAUSE THAT SUPERCHARGER'S GONNA ADD QUITE A BIT OF POWER, AND WE NEED THE SUPPORTING COMPONENTS THAT CAN HANDLE IT.

(TOMMY)>> WHILE OLE VAUGHN WAS HERE, HE HAD MENTIONED HE WAS GONNA SEND US A FEW PARTS FOR OUR MUSTANG, AND ONE OF THE FIRST THINGS THAT SHOWED UP IS THIS QUARTERMASTER EXTREMEV EIGHT POINT FIVE CLUTCH SET. NOW THIS THING IS SPEC'ED OUT BY VAUGHN HIMSELF, AND IT'S SIMILAR TO WHAT HE'S RUNNING IN HIS RID. WE'LL ALSO BE INSTALLING THIS HEAVY DUTY CLUTCH RELEASE BEARING WHILE WE'RE IN THERE. WE'LL ALSO BE INSTALLING ONE OF THESE BARTON BILLET SHIFTERS THAT WE GOT FROM SUMMIT RACING. NOW USING THIS THING HAS SEVERAL DIFFERENT BENEFITS TO IT. YOU CAN MOUNT IT SOLID STRAIGHT TO THE TRANSMISSION, OR YOU CAN USE THIS PIECE HERE AND MOUNT IT LIKE THE FACTORY COMES, THAT MOUNTS IT TO THE BOTTOM OF THE FLOOR. NOW YOU ALSO CAN ADJUST YOUR SPRING PRESSURES FROM SIDE TO SIDE, AND IT'S A SHORT THROW SHIFTER AT THE SAME TIME. NOW WE'VE GOT TO GET ALL THAT OLD STUFF OUT OF THE WAY SO THAT WE CAN INSTALL THIS NEW STUFF. SO LET ME SEE IF I CAN GET MARC IN GEAR.

(MARC)>> THE TRANSMISSION ITSELF WILL BE PLENTY CAPABLE OF HANDLING WHAT VAUGHN IS GONNA THROW AT IT, BUT THE SUPPORT COMPONENTS ARE THE ONES THAT NEED THE ATTENTION, LIKE THIS CLUTCH. WITH IT OUT OF THE WAY, WE CAN GET THE FLYWHEEL UNBOLTED AND SET ASIDE.

THE NEW FLYWHEEL IS A DIRECT BOLT IN, AND USING A LITTLE BLUE THREAD LOCKER ON ARP BOLTS, WE'LL GET IT BOLTED IN PLACE AND TORQUED DOWN.

(TOMMY)>> WE'LL GIVE THE MATING SURFACE A WIPE WITH SOME BRAKE PARTS CLEANER AND THEN WE CAN INSTALL THE CLUTCH ASSEMBLY USING THE CLUTCH ALIGNMENT TOOL. THE BOLTS GET STARTED BY HAND, AND THEN GET TORQUED.

(TOMMY)>> THIS FACTORY HYDRAULIC RELEASE BEARING GETS UNBOLTED AND REMOVED FROM THE TRANSMISSION, AND THE NEW ONE BOLTS RIGHT IN ITS PLACE. [ impact drill spinning ]

(MARC)>> THE SHIFTER IS NEXT, AND WITH JUST A COUPLE OF BOLTS BEING REMOVED THE WHOLE THING COMES OFF. THIS NEW SHIFTER IS QUITE A BIT MORE SOLID THAN THE STOCK ONE, BUT INSTALLS WITH EASE. WHILE WE'RE AT IT WE'LL SNATCH OFF THAT TRANSMISSION MOUNT... [ impact drill spinning ]

(MARC)>> ...INSTALL THIS DRIVESHAFT LOOP, WHICH WE GOT FROM SUMMIT RACING, AND TIGHTEN THE BOLTS. [ impact drill spinning ]

(MARC)>> WE'VE ALSO OPTED TO GO WITH THE SOLID MOUNTS FOR OUR SHIFTER, WHICH GET INSTALLED NEXT.

THE SHIFTER MECHANISM THEN BOLTS INTO THE SHIFTER HOUSING, AND GETS TIGHTENED DOWN.

(NARRATOR)>> UP AHEAD WE'LL MAKE SURE THIS PONY CAN EXHALE. THEN SEE JUST HOW MUCH POWER SHE CAN MAKE WITH A TRIP OVER TO THE CHASSIS DYNO.

(MARC)>> HEY EVERYBODY, WELCOME BACK. WHILE YOU WERE GONE WE WENT AHEAD AND GOT OUR TRANSMISSION BACK UP INTO OUR MUSTANG, AND GOT IT ALL BUTTONED UP. THE NEXT STEP IS GONNA BE INSTALLING THE DRIVESHAFT, BUT WE'RE NOT JUST GONNA REINSTALL THAT STOCK PIECE BECAUSE IT IS MADE OF STEEL AND IT'S A TWO PIECE. SO IT'S NOT GONNA BE ABLE TO HANDLE THE AMOUNT OF POWER WE'RE GONNA THROW AT IT. SO WE DECIDED TO GO WITH THIS ONE PIECE CARBON FIBER UNIT FROM THE DRIVESHAFT SHOP. NOT ONLY IS IT LIGHTER THAN THAT STOCK PIECE, BUT IT CAN HANDLE UP TO 1,000 HORSEPOWER, NOT TO MENTION IT LOOKS PRETTY COOL.

ALL RIGHT!

(TOMMY)>> THIS THING ADAPTS RIGHT TO OUR TRANSMISSION AND REAR USING THE SUPPLIED HARDWARE. IT'S THAT EASY.

THE NEXT UPGRADE THAT WE'RE GONNA BE BOLTING ONTO OUR SHOW PONY HERE IS THE EXHAUST. NOW FROM THE FACTORY THE KIT THAT WAS UNDER THIS THING WAS PLENTY GOOD BUT IT WAS ENGINEERED FOR 435 HORSE, AND THAT SUPERCHARGER THAT WE BOLTED ON THERE IS GONNA TAKE THAT NUMBER AND THROW IT OUT THE WINDOW. SO WE'VE GOT TO DO SOMETHING IN THE EXHAUST DEPARTMENT. SO WE WENT WITH THIS CAT BACK SYSTEM FROM MAGNAFLOW. NOW IT'S FULL STAINLESS STEEL, COMES WITH AN XPIPE, AND OF COURSE YOU GET THE TAIL PIPES AS WELL. AS FOR MUFFLERS WE GOT A COUPLE OF 14 INCHERS AND SOME CARBON FIBER TIPS. NOW YOU'LL REUSE SOME OF YOUR FACTORY HARDWARE TO HANG THIS KIT UP UNDER THE CAR, BUT YOU DON'T HAVE TO DO ANY FAB WORK TO GET IT IN THERE. NOW THE FIRST PIECE THAT GOES ON IS THIS XPIPE. NOW THE FACTORY RESONATOR IS QUITE A BIT BIGGER AND A LOT MORE RESTRICTIVE THAN THIS THING. SO LET'S GET IT IN.

THIS MID PIPE ATTACHES DIRECTLY TO THE EXISTING PIPES WHERE WE'VE PREVIOUSLY DISCONNECTED THE FACTORY EXHAUST. WITH IT IN PLACE BUT STILL LOOSE, THE PIPES THAT ROUTE UNDER THE AXLE ATTACH TO IT. THEY'RE HUNG USING THE FACTORY HARDWARE IN THE STOCK LOCATION.

THE MUFFLER GOES IN NEXT, ALSO USING SOME MORE OF THAT FACTORY HARDWARE. WITH EVERYTHING IN, ALL THE CLAMPS CAN BE TIGHTENED DOWN. [ impact drill spinning ]

(MARC)>> WELL NOW WE'VE GOT THIS THING BUTTONED UP MECHANICALLY AND IT'S TIME TO GET IT FIRED UP, BUT WE CAN'T JUST START IT WITH THE STOCK TUNE STILL IN THE COMPUTER. WE NEED TO GET A CUSTOM TUNE DONE ON THIS THING, BUT WE'RE NOT GONNA DO THAT JUST YET, BUT WE DO NEED TO UPDATE THE TUNE, ALLOW US TO DRIVE IT AROUND THE BUILDING AND GET IT OVER TO THE DYNO. SO WE HAD OUR TUNER EMAIL US WHAT'S CALLED A START UP TUNE, AND THAT'LL ALLOW US TO GETTING RUNNING, GET THE COOLANT BURPED, AND GET IT OVER THERE, AND GET IT READY TO DYNO TUNE. WE'VE GOT OUR TUNE LOADED ONTO OUR SCT LIVE WIRE HAND HELD. SO WE'LL SELECT IT FROM THE MENU AND WAIT FOR IT TO TRANSFER. IT PROMPTS US WHEN IT'S DONE, AND WE CAN FIRE IT UP AND GET IT DOWN ONTO THE DYNO. [ engine starts ]

NOW WE BROUGHT IN A SPECIALIST THAT'S GONNA HELP US DIAL IN THAT TUNE. HE AND MARC JUST ABOUT GOT EVERYTHING READY TO GO. LET'S SEE WHAT THIS THING CAN MAKE.

SO WE'RE ADDING SOME RACE GAS TO BUMP UP THE OCTANE RATING TO 93 OCTANE TO PREVENT ANY DETONATION. WELL WE'VE GOT OUR MUSTANG UP TO TEMPERATURE NOW. WE'VE GOT THE STRAPS ALL TIGHT, CHECKED OVER EVERYTHING, AND WE'RE IN GOOD SHAPE. ADAM'S LOADING UP HIS FIRST CALIBRATION NOW, AND WE'RE GONNA DO A PULL FROM ABOUT 2,000 TO 5,000 RPM, SHUT IT DOWN, AND JUST LOOK OVER IT, MAKE SURE EVERYTHING'S OKAY. THEN WE'RE GONNA START MAKING SOME FULL PULLS. [ engine revving ]

(TOMMY)>> AND IT MADE 544 HORSEPOWER, NOT TOO BAD.

(ADAM)>> YOU'RE ABLE TO SEE, THIS IS ME RUNNING THROUGH THE GEARS, GETTING UP TO OUR WIDE OPEN THROTTLE PULL. SO I'M LOOKING AT OUR FUELING AS I'M GOING THROUGH THE GEARS. I ACTUALLY NEED TO ADD SOME FUELING TO THE AIR FLOW MODEL IN THE TUNE. SO I GO FROM MY DATA LOG TO OUR ACTUAL TUNING SOFTWARE, AND WE'LL ACTUALLY JUST ADD IN FUELING WHERE WE NEED IT, LOAD IT BACK IN, AND WE'LL GET BACK TO MAKING SOME PULLS.

SO TO GET THE RIGHT SHOT YOU NEED FOR YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA ACCOUNT, OR FOR THAT CRAIGSLIST ADD, WE'VE GOT SOME TIPS FOR YOU. JUST LIKE THE SUBJECT OF A PORTRAIT IS THE PERSON, THE SUBJECT OF YOUR PHOTO IS YOUR CAR. MAKE SURE THE CAR IS CLEAN. YOUR MOM WOULDN'T LET YOU LEAVE THE HOUSE ON SCHOOL PICTURE DAY WITHOUT TAKING A BATH, BRUSHING YOUR TEETH, AND COMBING YOUR HAIR. DON'T TAKE PHOTOS OF YOUR CAR WHILE IT'S DIRTY.

NEXT PICK A GOOD SPOT WITH THE PROPER TERRAIN AND BACKGROUND. CARS AREN'T MADE TO DRIVE ON GRASS. UNLESS YOUR RIDE IS AN 18 HORSE MURRAY, GET OFF THE GRASS AND PARK IT ON ACTUAL PAVEMENT. THE BACKGROUND SHOULD BE PLEASING TO THE EYE. NOTHING TOO DISTRACTING, AND DEFINITELY NOT SOMETHING THAT'S THE SAME COLOR AS YOUR CAR. THAT'S A SURE FIRE WAY FOR YOUR CAR TO DISAPPEAR IN THE PHOTO.

DON'T SHOOT INTO THE SUN. YOU ALWAYS WANT TO HAVE THE SUN TO YOUR BACK WHEN TAKING THE PICTURE. THAT WILL ALLOW THE NATURAL LIGHT TO HIGHLIGHT THE SUBJECT, YOUR CAR. MORNING, JUST AFTER DAWN, AND EVENING RIGHT BEFORE DUSK ARE THE BEST TIMES TO SHOOT. PARK THE CAR IN A POSITION THAT WILL ALLOW YOU TO SHOOT A FRONT THREE QUARTER IMAGE. THIS IS THE BEST GENERIC ANGLE OF THE CAR. THIS HIGHLIGHTS THE FRONT AND SIDE AS WELL AS THE WHEELS AND TIRES. TURN THE WHEEL AWAY FROM THE CAMERA SO THAT THE FRONT WHEEL IS FACING NEARLY RIGHT AT THE CAMERA. KEEP IT SIMPLE, AND KEEP SOME BASIC PRINCIPLES IN MIND. FRAMING IS VERY IMPORTANT. DON'T MAKE THE CAR TAKE UP THE WHOLE FRAME. LEAVE SOME ROOM IN FRONT OF AND ABOVE THE CAR TO GIVE SOME PERSPECTIVE AND TO ALLOW THE VIEWER TO IMAGINE THE CAR IN MOTION. ALWAYS SHOOT IN LANDSCAPE ORIENTATION, NOT PORTRAIT. UNLESS YOU'RE SHOOTING THE COVER OF A MAGAZINE, WHICH YOU'RE PROBABLY NOT, LANDSCAPE IT IS. JUST A GOOD RULE OF THUMB FOR ALL PHOTOS ACTUALLY. DON'T JUST STAND THERE. MOVE AROUND AND ACTUALLY LOOK AT WHAT THE PHOTO'S GONNA LOOK LIKE BEFORE YOU START SNAPPING AWAY. CROUCH DOWN, BACK UP AND SET YOUR PHONE ON THE GROUND AND ZOOM IN. TRY A SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT ANGLE. EVEN IF IT FEELS A LITTLE AWKWARD AT FIRST IT MIGHT TURN OUT KINDA COOL. WELL THAT'S ALL THERE IS TO IT. THE PRINCIPLES WE SHOWED YOU TODAY, JUST KEEP PRACTICING.
