The National Corvette Museum embarked on one of the most exciting and significant expansion projects in the nearly 20-year history of the Museum when on June 28, 2013 it broke ground on a 184 acre Motorsports Park. NOW FIRST UP IS THIS AWESOME FORD RACING PERFORMANCE PACK SIX PISTON BRAKE KIT. NOW IT COMES WITH 15 INCH VENTED ROTORS AND SIX PISTON ALUMINUM BREMBO CALIPERS. FOR THE HANDLING DEPARTMENT LMR BROUGHT A TRACK HANDLING PACK, WHICH WILL PUT A LITTLE ROAD RACE INTO ANY LATE MODEL MUSTANG. NOW ALL THE COMPONENTS ARE DESIGNED TO WORK TOGETHER. THE SYSTEM LOWERS THE CAR ABOUT ONE INCH FOR A MORE AGGRESSIVE STANCE, AND THIS WHOLE SETUP HAS A FOCUS ON BETTER HANDLING OUT AT THE TRACK. DUE TO THAT MASSIVE FRONT KIT, WHEELS AND TIRES WERE ALSO PUT ON THE BUILD LIST. NOW THESE ARE FROM LMR'S IN HOUSE WHEEL BRAND, SVE. THIS IS THE SERIES THREE IN A GLOSS BLACK FINISH. IT HAS A MACHINE LIP AND CHROME RIVETS ALL THE WAY AROUND. NOW THE SPLIT SPOKE DESIGN GIVES IT A KILLER MODERN LOOK. WE'RE GONNA BE 20 BY EIGHT AND A HALVES UP FRONT, 20 BY 10'S IN THE REAR. AND ALL OF THEM ARE WRAPPED IN NITTO ENVO TIRES.

(LANDON)>> HOW'S IT GOING EVERYONE!

(MIKE)>> THEY EVEN SENT ONE OF THEIR OWN. LANDON IS TASKED WITH HANDLING ALL THEIR YOUTUBE INSTALL VIDEOS. HE WAS DEFINITELY QUALIFIED TO GIVE US A HAND. AFTER THE TEARDOWN THE NEW PARTS STARTING GOING ON. HERE'S A QUICK LOOK AT SOME OF THEM. INSTALLING THE NEW BAR TAKES A LITTLE PATIENCE TO GET IT POSITIONED. IT COMES WITH NEW BUSHINGS AND BRACKETS. THE STRUTS ATTACH TO THE STRUT TOWER FIRST AND ARE SECURED WITH NEW NUTS FROM THE KIT. NOW THE SPINDLE IS POSITIONED TO THE STRUT AND SECURED WITH THE ORIGINAL SPLINED FASTENERS. WITH NEW BACKING PLATES, THE BIG FRONT BRAKES WENT ON AS WELL, CALIPER BRACKETS, AND MONSTER SIX PISTON CALIPERS. THIS IS THE COMPLETED LOOK. OUT BACK WE REPLACED THE SPRINGS, SOME BUSHINGS, THE SHOCKS, AND THE SWAY BAR. THEN A PRO CHARGER STAGE TWO SYSTEM WAS INSTALLED WITH THE NEW PONEX HEAD UNIT. THE GETRAG MT-82 TRANS WENT AWAY AND A TREMEC MAGNUM XL FROM AMERICAN POWERTRAIN FILLED THE TUNNEL. NOW IT'S TIME TO GET THE FINAL RESULTS ON THE DYNO. ALSO FINALIZED ARE ALL THE LOGOS AND STRIPPING YOU'RE LOOKING AT. DUE TO THE TRANSMISSION SWAP FOURTH GEAR IS ONE TO ONE WITH THE NEW TREMEC. FELT STRONG!

(PAT)>> WE'RE BACK WORKING ON THE NOVA WITH THE LITTLE TIME THAT WE HAVE LEFT. NOW WE'RE GONNA BE INSTALLING A SUMMIT BATTERY DISCONNECT SWITCH, AND IT'S JUST NOT TO LOOK RACE CAR COOL. THIS IS A NECESSARY PIECE OF SAFETY EQUIPMENT FOR CARS THAT RUN THIS QUICK. WE'RE MOUNTING IT TO THE BACK HALF FRAME RAIL INSIDE THE TRUNK. NOW A CABLE FROM THE BATTERY POSITIVE IS ATTACHED TO ONE OF THE POSTS. A SECOND CABLE, WHICH GOES TO THE STARTER SOLENOID IS ATTACHED TO THE OTHER POST. NOW AN ALUMINUM ROD IS SLID THROUGH A SMALL HOLE WE PUT IN THE REAR PANEL AND THREADS ONTO A HEIM. FINALLY A TEA HANDLE THREADS ONTO THE OTHER END, AND WE HAVE A FUNCTIONAL BATTERY DISCONNECT SWITCH.

(MIKE)>> PAT AND I ARE BOTH FANS OF TURBO ACTION'S CHEETAH SCS SHIFTER. SO WE ORDERED THIS ONE FROM SUMMIT RACING. NOW THIS THING ACTUALLY DEBUTED AT THE 1982 NHRA GATOR NATIONALS. NOW IT HAS A BUILT IN ACTIVATION BUTTON THAT CAN BE USED FOR NITROUS, LINE LOCK, OR TRANS BRAKE. IT ALSO COMES WITH THE EVER IMPORTANT NEUTRAL SAFETY SWITCH. NOW A TWO FINGER OPERATED LIFT TO REVERSE AND PARK IS AN EASY ONE HAND OPERATION.

(PAT)>> COOLING 588 CUBIC INCHES AT 950 HORSEPOWER WITH 14.3 TO ONE COMPRESSION CAN BE A DIFFICULT TASK, BUT WITH THE CORRECT RADIATOR, EVEN AN ENGINE LIKE THIS CAN ACTUALLY RUN COOL ON THE STREET. WE PICKED UP THIS UNIVERSAL FIT RADIATOR FROM SUMMIT RACING. IT'S MADE OUT OF ALUMINUM AND HAS AN EXTREMELY LARGE COOLING AREA. WE HAD TO REMOVE THE MAJORITY OF THE CORE SUPPORT AND REINFORCE IT ON THE OUTSIDE TO GET THIS IN BECAUSE OUR MANDREL OF OUR CRANK SHAFT STICKS OUT PRETTY FAR. USING SPACER BLOCKS CUT FROM ALUMINUM STOCK, IT'S ATTACHED TO THE SUPPORT, ONE AT EACH CORNER. TO FINISH THIS SETUP OUT IT WILL RECEIVE TWO ELECTRIC FANS AND A FABRICATED ALUMINUM SHROUD VERY SOON.

(MIKE)>> TO MANAGE HOLLEY'S VRONE FUEL PUMP WE INSTALLED PREVIOUSLY UNDERNEATH THE CAR IS THIS TWO SPEED CONTROLLER THAT COMES WITH IT. NOW THIS ALLOWS YOU TO CONTROL THE PUMP IN A LOW OR HIGH SPEED FOR PROPER FUEL CONSUMPTION REQUIREMENTS. IT'S BEING MOUNTED IN THE TRUNK NEAR THE BATTERY USING 10-24 NUTSERTS AND MACHINED SCREWS. A WEATHER PAK CONNECTOR CONNECTS THE TWO TOGETHER.

(PAT)>> WE ARE BACK AND GOING BACK UNDERNEATH THE CAR, AND THERE'S NOT MUCH LEFT TO GET OLE "PROJECT PRO STREET OR NO STREET" RUNNING UNDER ITS OWN POWER. MOST OF THE ELECTRICAL, PLUMBING, AND FABRICATION WORK IS ALREADY DONE. NOW WE DO HOWEVER NEED A LINK FROM THE TRANSMISSION TO THAT KILLER FAB NINE REAR END HOUSING FROM CURRIE. WITH POWER LIKE THIS WE NEED A DRIVE SHAFT THAT EXCELS IN STRENGTH TO BE ABLE TO TAKE THE PUNISHMENT WE ARE GOING TO DELIVER TO IT. STRANGE ENGINEERING IS NOT NEW TO THIS GAME. THEY ARE ONE OF THE INDUSTRY LEADERS FOR BUILDING COMPONENTS FRO SOME OF THE FASTEST CARS IN THE WORLD, AND WE SOURCED THEM FOR THIS CUSTOM BULLETPROOF DRIVESHAFT. IT'S MADE FROM 41-30 SEAMLESS CHROMOLY TUBING. IT HAS A THREE AND A HALF INCH OD WITH AN 83 THOUSANDTHS WALL THICKNESS. THE WELD ON ENDS ARE 41-30 CHROMOLY FORGINGS WITH ADDITIONAL MATERIAL ADDED IN CRITICAL AREAS. THESE ACCEPT 13-50 UJOINTS. WE ORDERED OURS WITH THEIR SEVERE DUTY CHROMOLY TRANSMISSION YOKE MADE FOR OUR ROLLER BEARING IN THE TAIL HOUSING. THE SHAFT IS ALSO FULLY TIG WELDED AND PROFESSIONALLY BALANCE BASED OFF THE RPM THAT YOU SPECIFY ON THE CUSTOM ORDER SHEET. NOW THAT'S WHAT I CALL A DRIVESHAFT.

IN TODAY'S TECH TIP I'M GOING TO EXPLAIN A FEW THINGS ABOUT FUEL FOR AN INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE. NOW I KNOW WHAT YOU'RE THINKING. I'M GONNA GO OVER OCTANE RATINGS OF PUMP GAS VERSUS DISTILLED RACE FUEL FOR ONE OF YOUR HIGH PERFORMANCE BULLETS. WELL THAT'S HALF RIGHT. DEPENDING ON WHERE YOU ARE IN THE WORLD, DIESEL FUELS VARY IN CETANE RATING AS WELL, AND THEY'RE EXPRESSED AS A MINIMUM VALUE. THE HIGHER THE NUMBER THE EASIER TO SELF IGNITE. US LOW SULPHUR FUELS HAVE A MINIMUM RATING OF 40.
