INSTALLED A TWIN TURBO KIT IN OUR SHOP. THE REASON THAT THIS CAR IS HERE, IT'S GONNA BE

COMPETING IN THE TURBO COYOTE CLASS AGAINST JOHN'S WIFE, MELISSA URIST. SO WE'RE GONNA SEE HOW OUR WORK IS GONNA PAY OFF.

(JOHN)>> RON'S YELLOW 2015 GT WAS YOU KNOW, IS BASICALLY SHOWING WHAT FORD'S BROUGHT US, WHICH ARE THESE AMAZING CARS WITH THESE STRONG ENGINES, THESE AMAZING TRANSMISSIONS. SO WHAT WE DID IS WE DESIGNED A TURBO KIT TO MATCH THAT. SO WITH TWO SMALL 55 MILLIMETER TURBOS WE CAN MAKE 300 MORE HORSEPOWER THAN STOCK AND TAKE A STOCK 2015 GT INTO THE NINE SECOND RANGE.

(PAT)>> WELL THE WEATHER SURE DIDN'T KEEP ANYBODY HERE AT BAY. WE HAVE OVER 500 ENTRIES AND WE'RE IN THE STAGING LANES, AND WE'RE STARTING QUALIFYING. SO LET'S SEE HOW THESE GUYS ARE GONNA RUN IN THIS AWESOME WEATHER.

(MIKE)>> FIRST OUT TODAY IS THE TRUCK AND LIGHTNING CLASS, SHOWCASING EVERYTHING FROM LIGHTNINGS, FAST LITTLE RANGERS, TO BIG DIESEL FOUR BY FOURS, EVEN A COOL OLD PANEL TRUCK THAT COVERS THE QUARTER MILE IN LOW 11 SECOND TIMES.

AFTER TRUCKS IT WAS TIME TRIALS FOR THE LARGEST CLASS AT THE EVENT, THE BRACKET RACE CLASS. BUT ONLY AFTER GETTING A HAND FULL OF PAIRS DOWN THE TRACK MOTHER NATURE AGAIN DECIDED TO SHUT US DOWN. BUT THAT GIVES US A CHANCE TO MEET ONE OF THE NEWEST DRIVERS IN THE HELLION CAMP, HALEY JAMES.

HALEY IS IN HER FIRST YEAR AT COLLEGE AND HER FIRST YEAR BEHIND THE WHEEL OF THE TEAM'S COYOTE MODIFIED ENTRY. HER ONLY RACING EXPERIENCE BEFORE THIS YEAR WAS A SHORT STINT IN JUNIOR DRAGSTERS AT AGE NINE, AND LATELY ATTENDING FRANK HOLLEY'S DRAG RACING SCHOOL. HALEY'S RESULTS IN HER FIRST SEASON ARE ASTOUNDING. QUALIFYING ON THE POLE SEVERAL TIMES AND WINNING FOUR EVENTS WITH HER DAD DWAYNE SERVING AS CREW CHIEF. COMING INTO THE WORLD FINALS HALEY ONLY HAS TO QUALIFY IN THE TOP HALF OF THE FIELD TO CLINCH THE COYOTE MODIFIED CHAMPIONSHIP. BUT FOR HALEY, EVEN WITH ALL OF HER IMMEDIATE SUCCESS, IT'S THE TEAM ENVIRONMENT AT HELLION THAT SHE ENJOYS MOST.

(JOHN)>> THIS CAR STILL HAS CD, SUNGLASSES, INSURANCE CARD, OWNER'S MANUAL, POWER STEERING, EVERYTHING, A/C. IT IS A FULL BLOWN, WE'RE TAKING IT TO THE STORE STREET CAR. AND IT'S NOT REALLY ENTRY LEVEL. WE'RE TALKING LOW NINE SECOND, EIGHT SECOND PERFORMANCE OUT OF BASICALLY A STOCK CAR THAT YOU BUY OFF THE SHOWROOM FLOOR.

HALEY JAMES, WHO ONLY NEEDED TO MAKE THE TOP HALF OF THE FIELD TO BECOME CHAMPION PUT HER CAR ON POINT WITH THE QUICKEST PASS IN QUALIFYING, A STOUT 8.29.

(HALEY)>> THE CAR WENT A LITTLE BIT SIDEWAYS. SO I HAD TO DRIVE IT A LITTLE BIT TO THE LEFT, BUT I DROVE THROUGH IT, FELT GOOD, FELT FAST. I KNEW IT WAS GONNA BE A GOOD PASS, AND THAT SECURED THE CHAMPIONSHIP FOR ME.

SUFFICE TO SAY IT'S INSIDE THE TRANSMISSION.

MUCH OF A CHOICE BUT HOPE THE CAR WOULD JUST HOOK UP AND GO AND I WENT, AND I CLICKED THE WIN LIGHT. SO I MEAN, YOU CAN'T ASK FOR A BETTER ROUND.

TURNING TO VARNISH.

SO TODAY WE'RE GONNA SHOW YOU HOW WE PREP ONE FOR STORAGE TO AVOID ALL THAT.

(PAT)>> THIS IS OUR SUPER POPULAR 557 INCH BIG BLOCK FORD BUILD WE RAN NATURALLY ASPIRATED TO MAKE 754 HORSE, AND THEN WE SPRAYED IT WITH A 300

SHOT OF NITROUS TO MAKE 1,080 ALL ON 93 OCTANE PUMP GAS. THIS IS GONNA GO IN A FUTURE PROJECT FOR DETROIT MUSCLE, AND ALL I CAN SAY IS MARC AND TOMMY BETTER BE HANGING ON WHEN THEY WHACK THE THROTTLE ON THIS THING. THE FIRST STEP OF OUR STORAGE PREP IS REMOVING THE CARB. TURNING IT UPSIDE DOWN WILL ALLOW FUEL TO DRAIN OUT OF BOTH BOWLS THROUGH THE VENT TUBES.

NOW WE CAN SET IT ON A CARB STAND, AND REMOVE THE BOWLS SINCE THERE'S A LITTLE FUEL LEFT IN THEM.

NEXT WE'LL USE COMPRESSED AIR TO CLEAN OUT THE JETS AND AIR BLEEDS.

THE BOWLS GO BACK ON NOW, AND THE CARB IS WRAPPED IN PLASTIC FOR STORAGE.

(MIKE)>> THE NEXT STEP IS TO REMOVE ALL EIGHT SPARK PLUGS TO GET ACCESS TO THE CYLINDERS. NOW TO PREVENT INTERNAL SURFACE RUST ON THE CYLINDER WALLS AND PISTON RINGS WE'LL SPRAY FOGGING OIL INTO EACH HOLE. WHEN THE VALVE SPRINGS SIT FOR A PERIOD OF TIME WITH

THE ROCKER ARM STILL ATTACHED THEY LOSE TENSION, WHICH DECREASES THE SEAT AND OPEN PRESSURE.

NOW THAT IN TURN EFFECTS THE VALVETRAIN'S PERFORMANCE. TO AVOID THAT FROM HAPPENING WE'LL ROTATE THE ENGINE TO TDC COMPRESSION ON EACH CYLINDER. NOW LOOSEN THE ROCKER ARMS, WHICH ALLOWS THE VALVES TO BE CLOSED. THIS NOT ONLY RELIVES THE TENSION BUT KEEPS DEBRIS OUT OF THE CYLINDERS.

THIS GOES FOR ANY ENGINE, WHETHER IT'S SITTING ON A STAND OR IF YOU'RE PUTTING YOUR CAR AWAY FOR THE WINTER. COVER EVERYTHING BACK UP WITH THE VALVE COVERS.

(PAT)>> NOW WE'LL TAPE UP ALL THE EXHAUST PORTS SO CRITTERS GET IN THEM, AND PLUG THE OIL PRESSURE PORT TO KEEP THE OIL GALLERIES CLEAN. WE'RE REMOVING OUR NITROUS AND SPACER SETUP SO WE CAN TAPE UP THE CARB PAD.

THEN PUT THEM RIGHT BACK ON SO THEY DON'T GET MISPLACED. WITH SPARK PLUGS BACK IN PLACE, THE FINAL STEP IS WRAP THE ENTIRE ENGINE IN PLASTIC, WHICH FORMS A TIGHT COVERING. YOU CAN USE AN ENGINE BAG, A DROP CLOTH, OR A TARP. THIS STEP ENSURES DUST AND WATER WILL NOT GET ON YOUR BULLET. OUR THANKS TO THE NMRA FOR SHARING THEIR EVENT WITH US.
