Detroit Driver Arrested For Jumping Drawbridge ‘Dukes Of Hazzard’ Style

This guy took “Dukes of Hazzard” a little too seriously. The Detroit man was arrested after reportedly jumping a Dodge sedan over the Fort Street bascule drawbridge.

According to a local news report, the incident occurred Wednesday evening when the unidentified man was driving down long a bridge that crosses the Rouge River. When he came to the split, the bridge had begun rising which is when most drivers would stop the car. This driver, however, had a rather decided to floor it and hope he made it across. Which he did.

Drawbridge operator Andre Locke watched the wild scene unfold and commented, “I looked, I said, ‘No he ain’t. Over he went, blew out all four of his tires, and then he crashed into the other gate.” Locke commented that although Dukes of Hazzard comes to mind, it was more like the 1980s comedy “The Blues Brothers”.

While the driver made it to the other side, it wasn’t without crashing into and damaging the safety gates and his own tires. In fact, his vehicle was so damaged he was unable to flee the scene as he probably intended.

The man was arrested on suspicion of malicious destruction of property over $1,000 and taken to the Detroit Detention Center pending charges.
