Today, this not so ordinary Ford is transformed into one killer show truck featuring a massive lift kit. Driver, skill means everything at the world Nationals. And if you spring a leak, we've got to fix Xtreme 4x4 starts now.

Hey guys, welcome to Xtreme 4x4. You caught us doing some work out here in the tech center where we keep all of our project vehicles now prep them for future shows or just get them ready for a ride on the trail. And we noticed a pretty common theme when you look at all of these projects as a whole, they were all built to go off road into the woods or race.

But as you guys know, there's just as many lifted trucks out on the streets as there are trucks out on the trails. And so that's what we're gonna do today. We're gonna build a killer street truck. We're talking huge lift, big tires, massive wheels, a truck that's gonna turn heads and drop jaws at a place like a four wheel jamboree.

It's worth thousands upon thousands of trucks had to local fairgrounds to compete in show and shine competitions.

And the one constant seems to be the newer the truck, the bigger it has to be.

And since it's been over two years since we built our last street truck, we thought it was about time.

And so we're able to pull a few strings as a special favorite to you. And we got our hands on the newest truck we could find ready.

Oh,

has made some drastic changes to its most popular heavy duty pickup.

And this F 250 is one of the first super duties released to the public

and the new torque shift transmission is designed to improve this truck's towing performance. We should make it a great tow rig for one of our trail buggies.

Keys man. Thank you, sir.

But we got other plans for this truck. We're gonna turn this thing into one of the biggest baddest street trucks we can build. And so obviously, the first thing we gotta do is get it up in the air.

So the name of the show is called Xtreme 4x4, right? Which means that you had to know when it came time to choose a lift for this truck. We had two criteria one is that it had to be big

and two is that it had to be really big

and we're going to get 15 inches of adjustable lift. Thanks to a complete suspension upgrade from K

air, right?

This can

includes everything from their track bars to the leak out to six new Billstein 7100 shocks.

And the steering stabilizer,

a drop p

arm, upper lower airbag mos,

air bags,

air tanks, the compressors, the solenoids, everything from 5 to 15 inches of

and not only will the kick give us the height we want, but with the new four L suspension, front and rear, the performance of our new truck suspension will also be improved.

First things first out with the old before the new can go on,

then we can begin by mounting up the four length to the axle as well as the frame

and we can lower the axle in preparation for the airbag

with the upper brackets mounted to the frame.

The bag assembly is slid into place and secured

with the drop pitman arm installed. We will mount the track bar brackets

as well as the track bar

reinstall. The steering,

relocate the swing bar

and install our dual front bill, Stein

Chops,

ok.

Now, the res where we're going to see an improvement in our suspension performance by taking out these leaf springs and replacing it with a full

system,

we eliminate all a

wrap and hop.

The rear installation will be similar to the front but without the steering obviously, and once the rear bags are in place, we can concentrate on the plumbing.

All you p you guys at home.

This is not

a light thing to handle

might need. Two people

also offers these kids with coil over shock instead of airbags. If you're looking for the performance of war

without the adjustable of the air bags,

but nothing turns heads more than raising

a truck this big at the flick of a switch. And we want this truck to be extreme.

Now, when you lift the truck as much as we have here, you're gonna have some additional issues to deal with like drive shaft, angle, drive shaft length, brake, line length and all that kind of stuff. How to solve that.

Kelderman suggests replacing the rear drive shaft with a new one piece unit gets rid of the hangar bearing in the middle that when you move your air right up and down, you don't have to worry about binding on the U joint

and the front shaft needs to be lengthened an inch and an eight. So we already had that done for us as well and to solve the angle at this back CV, we're gonna have to do something. It's called clocking the transfer case.

We use this indexing ring between the transmission and the transfer case and allow us to lower the transfer case down to a new lower position.

Now, the flex lines are just new flex lines that are going in place and we're not gonna install the drive shafts yet because we are putting new gears in this truck. We're gonna go ahead and install this indexing ringing right now.

Later on, our new Ford hits the road for some head turning reaction. But up next, the most insane rock course ever designed. Stay tuned

time. Now for an Xtreme 4x4 tech tip.

Now we've all been here before out on the trail. A rock or a stone digs up into your radiator and puts a hole in it

and you can see the hole because your cooling systems under pressure and it's gonna pump all the water out of your truck.

There's a quick and easy trail fix for that and I pulled this radiator

out and put it on the bench so you can see it easier. Basically, all we gotta do is clean out all the cooling fins from above and below the tube that's running across from tank to tank and get in there with a pair of needle nose pliers, grab the broken tube, crush it and twist it

and that should hold pressure. Now it's easy to tell if it's holding pressure with your truck running because it'll stop leaking or if you have a gauge like this, you can pump it up

and see if it's gonna hold.

We go everywhere in search of the most challenging competition on the toughest terrain. And this week we got both at an international, we were competition just outside of Las Vegas.

It was billed as the most exclusive rock crawling event ever held. This is the world championship, the best of the best are here right here. This is just absolutely huge by invitation. Only 40 teams from five countries came to Henderson. Nevada get it done

all for a shot at being crowned the best in the world.

It's the top gun talent out here tonight. This is the top of the top

in the US and

Australia and obviously South Africans because I'm here. We know we were ranked here against the national drivers, but you bring in some new drivers. It peps things up a bit

where they had to go was through six of the nastiest man made courses ever created.

It's really tricky. It's, it's very Todd, very technical. It's gonna be very interesting. These are big break overs that are real difficult climb and, uh,

and a lot of twisted up stuff.

Can you smell it?

That's the smell of carnage.

An event. This colossal, sometimes the spirit of man crumbles under the strain. Some people are just crazy and they just want to go for it and the rollovers are just part of it. These men were constantly reminded that rock crawling is a sport of humility.

I'd have to say what goes through my mind.

Uh, before a rollover is, uh, just here it comes

a split second. You lose the whole event.

You never want to roll it in the van if I ever do roll it. I'd love to lean back on my wheels with nothing more than the will to win. They never stopped trying to get back on all fours

when you're on your side. Well, we, we, we still keep working still driving when I'm upside down.

A

lot of times I got to be told to stop, no matter what happens. If it's on all four tires, I can go on again. Get out of the course and come out with a good score.

You hope it's gonna go back on its wheels and that's really all I'm thinking. Failure to get it upright doesn't take away from. The thrill of the roll is like having a kid in and you're out in the backyard playing because it's kind of fun.

You look at your fellow competitors, your buddies and you know, you got a Snicker and point at the dents that you made.

Uh, it's, it's part of it.

Everyone's got a smile on their face because it is like a roller coaster.

Only six of the 17 pro modified teams would advance to the one obstacle shootout. You really have nothing to lose. You just got to go for the win, fresh off winning the national title. Jason Pauley's Day got off to a wild start. I roll over probably a little bit less than most because I'm, you know, pretty slow and technical driver. But I rolled over on the first obstacle this morning. I ended up being able to write myself which is very seldom

in the rest of the qualifier. Jason showed off that smooth South Dakota style.

I'm a true rock crawler. I guess. I always try to crawl something first. Most of the time

you take your time and find the perfect line. You can crawl almost anything. We don't like to go out and get all crazy and wheel speed and all that. The rock crawling part of it is where we came from. We really stick to it against the field of newer machines. He qualified first for the shootout. Well, I guess my rigs is kind of considered old school. This is a four year old car. It's without a doubt,

the heaviest vehicle here, which is kind of against the grain for us. The real rock rolling weight kind of helps it makes the suspension work and you get really good traction that way all polly needed to do was get through the shootout course and the world title would be here. Ok. Now, the pressure's on, you know, you never know, this is a tough sport

and anything could happen. You know, we're just hoping to make it through, ok, he made it through, ok, and etched his name in rock crawling history. The name world champion definitely sounds awesome. I'm going to Vegas.

Now, we'd love to say that Jason tripled his prize money at the local casinos, but actually he just trailed by President

and went home back to South Dakota, which of course is where I'm from

and Jason,

great job out there. It's always awesome to see you drive and congratulations.

Now, the whole point of this project is to have one of the biggest, newest trucks out there on the street. And so far we're doing pretty good

with our 2008 Ford Super Duty sitting on his Kelderman lift and now it's ready for a new set of boots. And since everything so far has been big, big and bigger, we went ahead and had a set of 41 inch interco. I

rocks installed on a set of 22 inch K MC diesel wheels. Now, the 22 inch wheel will give us a reasonable size sidewalk for daily driving.

And we'd love to tell you that we chose I rock because of its aggressive tread pattern. It really shines off road. The compound works great on the rocks, but let's be honest, we picked it for this truck because the 41 by 13 5 size is the biggest one that will fit on our Kelderman kit.

This truck obviously is not the way of a street rod in those air bags are huge, which means that they're going to require a substantial air supply system. So we're going to be using twin by air 400 C air compressors

to fill a five gallon tank. Now, all that air is going to be distributed through the whole truck using this

a air control system which includes everything from the sensors to the switches.

This will allow us to adjust our ride height from 5 to 15 inches with the flick of a switch.

Now, I know what you guys are thinking. We put 15 inches of lift on this truck, got 41 inch tires. We have to do something about the gear ratio. We want to get the truck back acting like it has a set of stock set of gears, both the front, rear axle because it's a computer controlled truck. There's things like a BS, computer controlled

mission

and drivability. You need to fool the truck to thinking it has stock size tires and wheels for it to operate correctly. So we're gonna go ahead and install a set of 456 gears from Randy's ring opinion, both front and rear and we also got obviously a complete install kit and a new PM L diff cover just for fun.

The rear axle on our forward is a full floater unit.

That means we can remove the shafts without removing the rotors or cal

with the inspection cover removed,

remove the bearing caps

and pry out the carrier assembly

and remove the pinion nuts

and hammer out the pinion using a brass strip, press the bearing off the pinion to get the master shim

and installed a new bearing on the pinion

and then install it in the housing,

install the new ring gear onto the carrier

and then it all goes back in

with the bearing caps, torque.

We'll check the backlash measurement

we're looking for between six and 8/1000 of an inch of backlash.

Now, we lucked out and we were able to reuse the stock shims for the side gears on our carrier and ended up with acceptable backlash as well as proper gear tooth pattern.

But if we hadn't, we would have simply replaced these factory shims with the ones that came in our install kit.

We could have moved this ring gear back and forth by installing more shims on this side to

the ring gear away from the pinion and get more backlash or more shims on this side, move the ring gear towards the pinion and tighten up that backlash member.

Now, all we have to do now is install the PM L diff cover. It comes with an integrated drain and a fill and then we can move to the front and put the gears in there. The only difference is we got to take the knuckles off to get the axles up

after the break. She's buttoned up and out the door. Stay tuned for a road trip in our bag super duty when Xtreme 4x4 continues

clear.

Hey,

guys, welcome back to extreme. We're about ready to take this truck out for a little spin, but first, we're going to change the entire look of the truck by swapping in a new set of bumpers.

Now finding a front rear bumper for this truck is a little bit difficult but

F

Force is a company that's got its finger on the pulse of what trucks will be popular. And of course, they were the first to build a new set of bumpers for this brand new truck.

The rear bumper is a direct bolton replacement that is made from 3/16 inch plate with a quarter inch under skin.

The front also bolts in place of the original

with a similar heavy duty construction and includes provisions for a winch fog lights and features cooling ducts that allow air flow to the inner cooler.

And now that we have our 08 super duties sitting high and looking good.

It is time to take it out. See how many heads our new monster truckle turn

first stop. Who better to appreciate a truck like this than America's future truck builders

are

lower

so I can get out

there you go. Make

it up. Thank you.

Pretty sweet.

Big, massive.

So you guys are looking at a

Hagerman air ride kit that gives you between 5 to 15 inches of what, 12 inches without its ride height? Did you drive it?

Yeah, you gotta drive the hell out of it.

It's a parallel four L with a pan

bar in the rear

to replace the leaf and the front. Just replace the radius,

sir. Same

thing. Parallel four bar. Can you hit it side to side?

Yeah, it's not as fast as a low rider though.

I like low riders but

I,

well, you know what they say in the off road crowd. R as low

Rs are for guys who can't get it up. Oh,

no,

that's,

that's not, that's not it at all.

Obviously, the truck's a hit. Standing still.

I gotta go guys.

But how will it perform it in the highway?

Of course, the new 6.4 L power stroke packs a serious punch and is touted as the cleanest and quietest diesel ever.

As far as our upgrades.

I'm highly impressed.

It's like riding on a bunch of fussy, fussy. Hello.

Probably the nicest thing about having an air ride on the truck. Like this

is while you're driving it, you can basically adjust any vibrations right out of it, using the, the control pad.

While you drive, you can simply add air

track there.

Get rid of the

harmonics in the drive shop because you're always gonna get that when you lift this thing like 15 inches in the air

bottom line,

our Kelderman truck reaches the heavens at a touch of a button

which means this m 250 is no less than a work of art.
