NOW WHEN I DO A BLEND, THE FIRST THING I WANT TO FOCUS ON IS MY REPAIRED AREA. ONCE I GET THAT COVERED IN RED BASE COAT, THEN I CAN START TO STEP OUT EACH COAT ABOUT HALF WAY DOWN THE FENDER. NOW I'LL KIND OF FAN AS I GO TO MAKE THE PAINT VERY TRANSPARENT. SO TO THE EYE YOU CAN NEVER TELL THAT THIS FENDER'S BEEN PAINTED, BUT I'LL SHOW YOU GUYS HOW TO DO ALL THAT IN A FEW MINUTES. FIRST WE'LL GET STARTED BY PREPPING THESE AREAS FOR A LITTLE BIT OF FILLER. THE FIRST THING WE NEED TO DO IS MAKE SURE OUR AREA IS PREPPED FOR GOOD ADHESION. I'M GOING OVER THE REPAIR AREAS WITH 36 GRIT ON AN ANGLE GRINDER, GETTING RID OF ANY PAINT WHERE I MAY BE SPREADING FILLER, AND PREPPING THE METAL. THEN I'M GOING OVER THE OUTER EDGE OF THE PAINT WITH 80 GRIT ON A DA TO FEATHER OUT THE PAINT EDGE FOR A SMOOTH TRANSITION FROM THE METAL. NOW WE'RE READY TO LAY DOWN A SKIM COAT OF FILLER, BUT A LOT OF YOU GUYS OUT THERE MAY NOT KNOW WHAT FILLER YOU NEED FOR THE TYPE OF REPAIR YOU'RE DOING. SO I'VE SET A FEW OUT HERE TO TELL YOU A LITTLE ABOUT THEM. NOW THIS ONE IS CALLED METAL TO METAL. IT'S ACTUALLY AN ALUMINUM FILLED FILLER. YOU CAN ACTUALLY SEE THE ALUMINUM PARTICLES IN IT. NOW THIS STUFF IS GREAT FOR GALVANIZED STEEL OR ALUMINUM REPAIR. NOW WHAT I LIKE TO USE IT FOR IS WHEN I'VE WELDED TWO PANELS TOGETHER. ONCE I'VE GROUND MY WELDS, IF THERE'S ANY CHANCE I THINK THERE COULD BE PIN HOLE I'LL USE A SKIM COAT OF THIS OVER MY WELD. IT WORKS REALLY GOOD FOR THAT. NOW THIS IS LONG STRAND FIBERGLASS. NOW THEY RECOMMEND IT FOR DEEP OR BIG DENTS, AND THEY EVEN SAY YOU CAN PUT THIS STUFF OVER RUST. NOW SINCE I LIKE TO METAL WORK EVERYTHING OUT, I WANT TO PUT THE LEAST AMOUNT OF MATERIAL ON A PANEL AS POSSIBLE. SO THIS ISN'T REALLY GOOD FOR THAT, BUT IF YOU HAVE AN OLD CORVETTE, SINCE THEY'RE FIBERGLASS, THIS CAN BE A GOOD PRODUCT FOR THAT. NOW THIS IS RAGE LIGHT WEIGHT BODY FILLER, AND THIS IS WHAT WE'LL BE USING TODAY ON OUR FENDER. NOW THIS STUFF SPREADS REALLY EASY AND IT'S EASY TO SAND.

IT CAN ALSO BE USED ON GALVANIZED STEEL AND ALUMINUM. NOW IF YOU'RE BUILDING AN OLD HOT ROD OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT, THIS IS THE STUFF YOU WANT TO USE WHEN YOU'RE SKIM COATING PANELS.

NOW LASTLY WE HAVE METAL GLAZE POLYESTER PUTTY. NOW IT'S REALLY GOOD FOR GOING BACK OVER THE TOP OF YOUR FILLER IF YOU HAVE ANY PIN HOLES OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT, BUT WHAT'S REALLY COOL ABOUT THIS PRODUCT IS IT CAN BE USED OVER A WELL PREPPED OEM FINISH, AND ALL OF THESE PRODUCTS REQUIRE A CATALYST, AND WE GET

STARTED WITH OUR FILLER.

SINCE WE'VE METAL WORKED EVERYTHING PROPERLY, WE ONLY NEED A SKIM COAT. IT TACKS UP IN JUST A FEW MINUTES. THERE'S A SWEET SPOT WHEN YOU'RE SANDING YOUR FILLER. YOU DON'T WANT TO GET ON IT WHEN IT'S TOO WET, AND YOU DON'T WANT TO LET IT DRY ALL THE WAY BECAUSE THEN IT'S JUST TOO HARD TO SAND. WHAT I LIKE TO DO IS TAKE MY LATEX GLOVES AND I'LL LISTEN FOR THAT "SMUT" WHERE MY GLOVE BARELY STICKS TO IT. I KNOW I'M PRETTY CLOSE AND THAT'S A GREAT

SWAPPING TO 80 GRIT IS WHERE THE SHAPING TAKES PLACE, GIVING THE AREA A NICE FEATHERED EDGE. NOW 180 GRIT PAPER IS USED TO REMOVE ALL THE 80 GRIT SCRATCHES. I'LL MASK OUT THE PRIMER AREA TO PROTECT THE REST OF THE FENDER FROM OVERSPRAY. NOW FOR PRIMER I'M USING EVERCOAT SUPER BUILD POLYESTER PRIMER, MIXING FOUR TO ONE WITH A CATALYST, AND DOESN'T REQUIRE AN EPOXY OR ETCH PRIMER. THREE COATS AND A 15 MINUTE FLASH TIME AND WE'LL BE READY TO SAND FOR BASE COAT.

APPLY SOME GUIDE COAT. THEN BEGIN THE BLOCK SANDING PROCESS. NOW I'VE WALKED YOU GUYS THROUGH THIS MANY TIMES BEFORE. SO WE'LL FAST FORWARD TO GET TO THE GOOD STUFF. AND WHAT I MEAN BY THE GOOD STUFF IS BLENDING PAINT,

WHICH IS SOMETHING WE'VE NEVER SHOWN YOU BEFORE. NOW SURE, WE'VE PAINTED A TON OF CARS FROM FRONT TO BACK BUT LET'S FACE IT, WHEN YOU GET A COUPLE OF DINGS LIKE THIS YOU DON'T WANT TO GET STUCK PAINTING THE ENTIRE CAR.

NOW WHAT I MEAN BY BLEND IS BASICALLY FADING THE PAINT DOWN THE PANEL. SO IF YOU HAVE A COLOR THAT MATCHES CLOSE ENOUGH AND YOU FADE THE PAINT OUT PROPERLY YOU'LL NEVER KNOW THIS THING'S BEEN PAINTED.

THE FIRST PRODUCT I'M GOING TO BE USING IS CLEAR BASE, MIXING ONE TO ONE WITH REDUCER. NOW THE PROS CALL THIS AN ORIENTATION COAT, OR WET BED. IT HELPS FILL ANY SANDING SCRATCHES, AND WILL HELP WITH

OUR BASE BLENDING BY PROVIDING A WET FOUNDATION BEFORE WE SPRAY OUR COLOR, AND ALL WE NEED IS ONE COAT. NOW WE'RE READY FOR BASE. NOW THE FIRST THING IS MAKE SURE OUR PRIMER AREAS GET FULLY COVERED WITH COLOR. SO I'M LAYING DOWN A FEW COATS RIGHT OVER THE PRIMER. ONCE IT'S COVERED THEN WE CAN START THE BLEND. STARTING AT THE FRONT OF THE FENDER, I'LL MAKE A PASS JUST PAST THE PRIMER AREA WITH A LITTLE FLICK OF THE WRIST AT THE END. ON THE SECOND COAT I'LL DO THE SAME THING JUST GOING A LITTLE FURTHER THIS TIME.

NOW IF WE WERE GONNA SPRAY A VEHICLE LIKE NORMAL, LIKE YOU'VE SEEN US DO, WE WOULD MAKE A PASS LIKE THIS. NOW YOU CAN SEE THAT'S AN ABRUPT STOP. NOW IF OUR NEW PAINT WAS A SHADE DIFFERENT, THEN THE OLD PAINT ON THE PANEL, WELL YOU WOULD DEFINITELY BE ABLE TO SEE THE DIFFERENCE. SO WHEN YOU'RE BLENDING A PANEL, YOU WANT TO MAKE A FLICK OF THE WRIST AT THE END. YOU CAN SEE HOW YOU HAVE SOLID COLOR AND TOWARD THE END HOW IT GETS TRANSPARENT. THIS IS WHAT MAKES THE BLEND, AND THIS IS WHAT'S GONNA MAKE IT WHERE YOU CAN'T TELL IT'S BEEN PAINTED.

WE'LL FOLLOW UP WITH ONE MORE COAT OF BASE AND THEN THREE COATS OF CLEAR.

WELL THERE YOU GO, AND THAT'S HOW YOU DO A BLEND. NOW IT'S NOT MAGIC, IT'S ALL IN THE TECHNIQUE. NOW IF YOU HAVE A REPAIR LIKE THIS AT HOME, IT'S PRETTY EASY TO DO. IT'S JUST ALL IN THE FLICK OF A WRIST.
