I JUST COULDN'T PUT THE TWO TOGETHER. I JUST PICTURED LIKE A DIRTY RANGER WITH A TERMINATOR IN IT, SPINNING TIRES WITH RUST FALLING OFF. AND THEN ONCE I GOT MORE EDUCATED WITH THE PROJECT, JUST ALL THE WORK THAT'S BEEN PUT INTO IT, THE

LENGTHENING OF IT, THE FENDERS, THE SUSPENSION, SUPER EXCITED ABOUT BEING ABLE TO BE A PART OF IT.

THE FIRST THING WE DID WHEN WE GOT ROLLING THUNDER WAS JUST DO A BASIC CHECK OVER THE VEHICLE. FOUND A COUPLE OF THINGS WE NEED TO FIX RIGHT AWAY. GOT THOSE KIND OF IN ORDER. SO TO POWER ON? WITH JOHN LUND WITH LUND RACING WE DEVELOPED A CALIBRATION TO GET THE THING STARTED.

3,000 FROM SCT. A STOCK METER WOULD MAX OUT AT THIS LEVEL. THE BA 3,000 ALLOWS US TO CALIBRATE THE VEHICLE CORRECTLY. AND THE MATH TABLES DON'T MAX OUT SO THEY DON'T GO INTO THE FELL TABLES. ONCE WE HAD THE THING STARTED AND RUNNING WE DIALED IN THE IDLE.

ADDED A COUPLE OF DEGREES OF TIMING, THIS THING RESPONDED BY MAKING 550 HORSEPOWER AND 540 POUNDS OF TORQUE. SO NEEDLESS TO SAY, WE'RE BEYOND SIKED, AND WE'RE GONNA HAVE TO FLIP A COIN OR ARM WRESTLE OR SOMETHING TO DETERMINE WHO GETS TO DRIVE THIS BAD BOY HOME.

(KEVIN)>> NOW WE ALL KNOW THAT A POWER PROGRAMMER IS A GREAT WAY TO GET A LITTLE MORE SEAT OF THE PANTS FEEL AND MORE HIGH PERFORMANCE OUT OF YOUR GAS POWERED VEHICLE. BUT LIKE WITH MY PERSONAL VEHICLE, I'VE GOT A PROGRAMMER ON IT, BUT IT LOCKS ME IN TO PREMIUM FUEL, WHICH IS MORE EXPENSIVE. BUT TODAY WE'RE GONNA SHOW YOU A PROGRAMMER THAT ALLOWS YOU TO USE THE LESS EXPENSIVE 87 OCTANE AND STILL GET GREAT PERFORMANCE GAINS.

WELL HYPERTECH'S FIGURED OUT HOW TO IMPROVE ON THAT WITH THEIR LINE OF PROGRAMMERS. THIS IS THEIR MAX ENERGY TUNER. THIS TUNER CAN READ AND CLEAR TROUBLE CODES, RECALIBRATE FOR CHANGES IN TIRE SIZE OR REAR AXLE RATIO. YOU CAN CHANGE WHEN THE COOLING FANS COME ON AND OFF, AND YOU CAN ADJUST THE TOP SPEED LIMITER. AND OF COURSE IT'S INTERNET UPDATABLE. NOW AS FAR AS TUNING OPTIONS GO, WELL YOU CAN TUNE FOR

87 OCTANE OR PREMIUM FUEL. AND ON 87 OCTANE, ON HYPERTECH'S TRUCK ON THEIR DYNO, THEY SHOWED GAINS OF 65 HORSEPOWER AND 58 POUNDS OF TORQUE.

ON THE PREMIUM FUEL SETTING WELL THEY SHOWED GAINS OF 87 HORSEPOWER AND 101 POUNDS OF TORQUE. NOT BAD AT ALL FOR A HALF TON GAS POWERED TRUCK.

SO WE'RE GONNA TAKE THIS THING OVER TO THE HORSEPOWER DYNO AND SEE WHAT IT'LL DO. SO LIKE WE ALWAYS DO, WE STRAPPED THIS THING DOWN TO THE HORSEPOWER DYNO TO GET A BASELINE AVERAGE OF THREE RUNS. WE ENDED UP WITH 312 HORSEPOWER AND 355 POUND FEET OF TORQUE, WHICH IS A PRETTY STRONG SHOWING FOR

A STOCK PICK UP TRUCK. THEN IT WAS TIME TO UPLOAD HYPERTECH'S 87 OCTANE CALIBRATION SO WE CAN MAKE SOME MORE RUNS AND COMPARE IT TO WHAT WE JUST DID USING THE SAME FUEL. NOW THE TUNER DOWNLOADS THE STOCK TUNE AND STORES IT JUST IN CASE YOU EVER NEED TO RETURN THE VEHICLE TO STOCK. THEN IT UPLOADS THE MODIFIED 87 OCTANE TUNE. THE PROCESS IS SIMPLE AND ONLY TAKES A FEW MINUTES, JUST FOLLOW THE PROMPTS.

COOL, LETS TURN SOME ROLLERS. THEN WE MADE THREE MORE RUNS AT WIDE OPEN THROTTLE AND IN DIRECT DRIVE. WHAT WE ENDED UP WITH WAS 326 HORSEPOWER AND ALMOST 359 POUND FEET OF TORQUE.

ALRIGHT WITH THE 87 OCTANE TUNE OUT OF THE WAY LETS PUT SOME 93 IN THIS THING AND SEE WHAT IT'LL DO.

AND WITH THE HIGHER QUALITY FUEL ALONG WITH THE MORE AGGRESSIVE TUNE, WELL WE ENDED UP WITH 332 HORSEPOWER AND 386 POUNDS OF TORQUE, NOT BAD.

(KEVIN)>> WHAT DOES THAT MEAN ON THE ROAD? WELL WE TOOK AN ALREADY SPRY FEELING BRAND NEW PICK UP TRUCK AND MADE IT FEEL VERY, VERY RESPONSIVE.

YOU'D NEVER KNOW THIS WAS A 5,000 POUND PLUS PICK UP ON THE ROAD AS AGILE AS IT WAS. AND WHEN IT CAME TIME TO PASS, YOU FLAT FOOT IT AND IT COMES ON AND KEEPS COMING.

AND CRUISING DOWN THE INTERSTATE, THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING NICE AND COOL, AND AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS IT WAS ONLY TURNING ABOUT 1,800 RPM. A NICE LITTLE CRUISE UNTIL YOU PUT YOUR FOOT INTO IT.

THEN YOU BETTER BE HOLDING ON TO ITS 550 HORSEPOWER. AND SINCE THIS TRUCK'S JUST ABOUT DONE, WELL WE WANTED TO SHARE WITH YOU THE FINAL STATS ON THIS MONSTER. WE BUILT THIS TRUCK AROUND A FOUR POINT SIX LITER DUAL OVERHEAD CAM ALUMINATOR ENGINE. THAT'S FED BY A TWO POINT THREE LITER SUPERCHARGER STRAPPED TO THE TOP. BEHIND THAT SITS A LIGHTWEIGHT CLUTCH AND FLYWHEEL ASSEMBLY AND A SIX SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION. THE REAR SUSPENSION IS UNIQUE TO SAY THE LEAST. IT'S A BEEFED UP MUSTANG IRS. THE FRONT SUSPENSION WAS DESIGNED ON PERFORMANCE TRENDS SOFTWARE AND THEN APPLIED TO THE TRUCK. TRIPLE ADJUSTABLE COIL OVERS WILL ALLOW US TO DIAL THIS THING IN. SOME 13 INCH ROTORS AND FOUR PISTON CALIPERS UP FRONT OUGHT TO SLOW US DOWN. AND WE ROLL ON SOME THREE PIECE TRUE FORGED WHEELS WRAPPED IN SOME PRETTY STICKY AND PRETTY WIDE BFG GFORCE KDW TIRES. ALL THIS ADDS UP TO JUST UNDER 3,400 POUNDS WITH A LOW CENTER OF GRAVITY AND RESPECTABLE FRONT TO REAR WEIGHT BIAS.

AND FINALLY MOVING THIS THING DOWN THE ROAD IS A THUNDERING 550 HORSES AT THE WHEELS.
