Everyone knows that Rolls-Royce is recognized as one of the greatest luxury car brands in the world. It shouldn’t surprise anyone that a Rolls-Royce comes with a big price tag. However, the Boat Tail, which debuted in 2022, is not only an extremely rare model in its own right, but it is also the most expensive new car in the world.

The Boat Tail was developed as a coach-built model, reserved for only the most exclusive of clients. So don’t expect to come across one at your nearest dealership. It comes with polished finishing, a two-tone exterior, and a hidden “hosting suite” that emerges out of its butterfly wing doors in the rear.

Although Rolls-Royce does not publicly disclose the MSRP on special builds such as this, it is believed that this car comes with an asking price of $28 million.

1. A Rolls-Royce With Its Own Luxury Picnic Set

Most of us who have gone tailgating before are aware of the importance of transporting chairs, umbrellas, and cookware in the back of a truck or SUV. But the Rolls-Royce version of outdoor dining from your vehicle takes it to a new level. First is the bespoke deck inspired by Spanish architect Santiago Salatrava that opens up with butterfly wing doors to reveal a luxurious picnic set. This includes silverware, dinnerware, glassware, chairs, and even a champagne cooler. The unfolded deck can also extend into cocktail tables, and just like the Rolls-Royce Ghosts and Wraiths, the Boat Tail comes with its own umbrella.

2. It Is Packing Some Heat Under The Hood

Because those who purchase a Rolls-Royce expect the best in terms of luxury and performance, the Boat Tail was built to satisfy both of those needs. Equipped with the same frame and engine as the Phantom, the Bail Tail features a 6.75-litre N74B68 twin-turbocharged V-12 engine that is able to produce 563 horsepower and 664 lb-ft of torque. It is also outfitted with sound components custom-made by Bose Corporation that is able to use the vehicle’s floor as its own sonorous chamber.

3. Clients Inspired Its Nautical Design

The Rolls-Royce coach-builds have had a history of implementing the hull structures of boats into the car’s design. But it is rumored that one customer, who was very impressed by styles of J-Class yachts and the Sweptail (the Boat Tail’s predecessor), had spoken to Alex Innes, the head of Rolls-Royce Coachbuild Design about developing a newer boat-inspired car. As luck would have it, Innes and his team were also thinking of the same thing. But they also wanted to be able to make these custom cars as original as possible by adding special features that are specific and unique to their owners’ personal interests.

4. Covered In Pearls

Anyone who orders a high-end, custom-made luxury car would expect extreme care from front to back down to the finest detail. So it shouldn’t surprise anyone that the Boat Tail was actually commissioned by a prominent figure in the pearling industry who wanted to implement the family business into the overall design of the car. It is said that the Boat Tail’s exterior paint was inspired by four different pearl shells provided by the client. In addition, he also provided mother-of-pearl materials to be added to the car’s instrumentation and timepiece on the dash. So in case you are wondering where some of that $28 million was going, here’s your sign.

5. Some Parts Were Made By A 3D-Printer

Most of this car’s materials are pretty standard when it comes to most vehicles. It consists of metal, leather, wood, glass, paint, etc. But one area between the cabin and the tonneau is a strip of 3D-printed composite that features a graphic pattern for air circulation. According to Alex Innes, this chamber allows air to flow easier while driving at high speeds, as well as to avoid vibrations being felt by the hidden speakers below.

Chances are none of us will ever see that kind of money in our lifetimes. That is unless one of us happens to be the winner of the $1.55 billion Mega Millions jackpot, which also happens to be the largest prize in that lottery’s history. In the event that only one ticket wins on Tuesday, the cash option would be just over $757 million.
