Off Road Rig With A Ridiculously Low Top Speed

Typical off-road vehicles have crawl ratios between about 30 and 100. However, the Mercedes Unimog has a “Super Crawler” gear with a crawl ratio of over 3000. That means the rig has unstoppable crawling power and a ridiculously low top speed.

Just looking at the controls will probably scare you off. YouTuber ExpedImports walks us through them all his video. And while there’s no confirmation of the actual crawl ratio and top-speed figures with any official Mercedes documentation, the guys at Truck Yeah did find a brochure for the Unimog U500 and found that the first gear can be used in “road gear” or “working gear” mode and that the rig has an electronically limited top speed of 0.09 mph, or 475 feet per hour. Talk about getting the job done slowly.

It’s a very special PowerNation On The Road as Gannon Pritchard joins Katie from a NASCAR race with guests Joey Logano and Rutledge Wood. Joey Logano is not only a successful race car driver but also a gearhead and car collector as well, you’ll see. Plus TV personality Rutledge Wood will talk about two of his current automotive projects and what happens when one of his rides has a faulty fuel gauge.

Gannon will also check out the fan area and introduce you to one very laid back and cool PowerNationTV fan. Plus our four shops in our 50,000 sq.f.t Tech Center have some great content for you so check it out this weekend!
