Ferrari Might Be Dipping In To The UTV Market

Ferrari is reportedly considering a utility vehicle in hopes of doubling profits by 2022. According to MotorTrend, sources familiar with the matter who asked to remain unidentified said that the automaker is trying to expand beyond supercars and plans to deliver more than 10,000 vehicles annually as part of a new plan.

Delivering over 10,000 vehicles could mean that Ferrari must comply with tighter emissions regulations. So in order to tackle that the automaker may build more hybrid vehicles. FCA’s Sergio Marchionne is currently CEO at Ferrari and has been pushing the automaker toward more volume. As a result, Ferrari is already well past the 7,000-car production cap that was imposed to preserve the brand’s exclusivity. As part of its move toward doubling its profits, Ferrari is evaluating the possibility of a car that’s more spacious, being a four-seat, all-wheel-drive shooting brake. The more practical Ferrari will be aimed directly at Asian consumers, particularly China. Sources also noted that in China alone the new model could contribute to 2,000 vehicles to the automaker’s annual deliveries. A utility vehicle would be risky for Ferrari and needs to look, sound, and drive like one while being more practical in order to be successful. Do you think they’ll be able to pull it off?

This week on PowerNation Katie features this drop dead gorgeous 1941 Ford F-1 built by the team from One Off Rod & Custom in Middletown, DE that made it all the way to the Ridler Great 8! Shop owner Gary Corkell and Kristina Young will share all the hard work that went into transforming a partially restored truck into a Ridler contender, including a complicated two-tone paint job called “Brown Sugar” that has 18 coats of Clear, a period correct Flathead, and a motorized hood and bed that reveals jewelry-like suspension.

The interior is equally superb with imported leather and hydro-dipped dash components for a stunning look. Owner Ed Sears has to be happy, he’s commissioned them to take another shot at the Ridler. Check it out this week on PowerNation!
