Chevy Dealer Gifts New Silverado to Teen Who Drove His Truck Through a Tornado
You may have heard the news story about the Texas teen who successfully drove his Chevy Silverado through an active tornado after being knocked over by the powerful winds. While the driver survived the ordeal with minor injuries, his truck took heavy damage.
In a report by KHOU, 16-year-old Riley Leon of Elgin, TX was on his way home from a job interview when he and his truck were swept up by a tornado. When he reached a safe location, Riley said he was very emotional due to the damage done to the truck because it used to belong to his father. “It broke me down seeing my hard work is gone,” Leon said. “It is family-owned but my dad passed it to me but I paid him off.”
But Riley’s ordeal comes with a happy ending because Bruce Lowrie Chevrolet of Fort Worth, TX gifted the teen with a new 2022 Chevy Silverado LT and a check for $15,000. Chevrolet also donated $50,000 to the American Red Cross to provide assistance for natural disaster relief efforts across the state.
“We are thankful Riley is safe, commend his driving skills during a frightening situation, and our hearts are with other families in Texas that have been affected by these storms,” Chevrolet said in a statement. “Due to the quick action of the team at Bruce Lowrie Chevrolet, the new truck will be presented to Riley and his family on Saturday, March 26, at the dealership.”
