Behold The 50 Fastest Speeding Tickets In Texas

Hold your horses, especially on those flat and dusty Texas roads. The Drive recently reached out to the Texas Department of Public Safety to obtain information about the highest speeding tickets in Texas issued for 2018 by the Texas Highway Patrol.

While this is normally the annual work of the Houston Chronicle, for some reason it was skipped this year. The Drive decided to take matters into their own hands. When they received an email back a few weeks later, attached was a detailed spreadsheet that listed 228 tickets (along with some officer notes, vehicle, and coordinates) that were issued to people going excess of 120 miles per hour.

The fastest ticket was issued to the driver of a 2003 Porsche 911 who was hauling the mail at 166 mph in a 75 mph zone. One driver’s excuse while piloting her 2018 Mazda CX-5 at 123 mph in a 65 zone was “she was running late to take her daughter to the DPS office to get her driver’s license”. One driver of a 2013 Ford F-150 was clocked at 150 mph. Another motorist was pulled over for going 137 mph, and the note states that he thought he was only going 130 mph at the time. In another incident, the driver admitted to the officer that he had broke his speed record.

While a healthy amount of motorcycles certainly dominate the list, there’s a mix of sports cars, pickup trucks, and sedans. In the full data acquired by The Drive, they say that the most-ticketed car for sailing above 140 mph speeds is the Ford Mustang.

They also go on to say that the great big state of Texas stomps New York and California in crashes from speed and fatalities.
