‘Munsters’ 1964 Dragula Coffin Dragster Heads To Auction

The last of the five Dragula units built at Barris Kustoms will be heading to the Mecum auction block in Kissimmee this January.

The car was designed by legend George Barris for the popular TV sitcom, The Munsters. The show rose to popularity and so did the Dragula which is a real coffin on wheels. If you aren’t familiar with the sitcom Dragula was put together by Grandpa Munster in an effort to win back the Munster Koach, which Herman had lost in a race.

Barris actually purchased a real coffin from a funeral home and used it to build possibly the most unique drag racer out there. Under the hood is a 289/350 HP V-8 engine and automatic transmission.

Coffin aside, custom features include four organ pipes on each side in place of an exhaust, antique lamps, Grandpa Munster’s headstone where you would typically find a radiator and a purple leather interior.

You can look for the Dragula in January 2022 at Kissimmee on lot R518. A letter of Authenticity and Certificate of Authenticity from Barris Kustoms will be provided with purchase.
