This is a new one…

High-speed chases are typically filled with cop cars, someone on the run, and….you guessed it, a vehicle traveling at high speed. So a Smart Car probably isn’t what comes to mind when you think of a getaway car.

But somewhere in Arizona on the I-10, that’s exactly what’s happened. News station KTVK/KPHO streamed the whole incident live on Facebook for all of our entertainment.

The kicker of this entire situation is that the driver in the smart car GOT AWAY! Okay, so the authorities terminated the pursuit and let him go. Probably because they identified the driver and just thought it would be easier to let him go, not endanger other drivers, and let’s be honest, they’ll catch up with him soon.

The whole scene started with a man yelling in a Walmart parking lot. The police were called and he refused to cooperate, hopped in a Smart Car, and headed out, starting the chase. Police followed and the police helicopter was even involved before spike strips were deployed but unsuccessful. After authorities called off the pursuit, this driver is now just cruising along the I-10 and will have a surprise waiting for him when he calls it quits!
