‘Fast X’ Director Justin Lin Quits Only Days After Filming

“Family” is the concept that keeps the adrenaline-pumping Fast and Furious film franchise going. However longtime director Justin Lin announced that he will no longer be directing Fast X due to creative differences. In a report by Deadline, Lin co-wrote the film with Dan Mazeau and will stay on as a producer.

“With the support of Universal, I have made the difficult decision to step back as director of FAST X, while remaining with the project as a producer,” Lin said in a statement. “Over 10 years and five films, we have been able to shoot the best actors, the best stunts, and the best damn car chases. On a personal note, as the child of Asian immigrants, I am proud of helping to build the most diverse franchise in movie history. I will forever be grateful to the amazing cast, crew and studio for their support, and for welcoming me into the FAST family.”

With production on hold, the film’s team is on the look for a replacement director.

Scheduled for theatrical release on May 19th, 2023, Fast X is slated to be the final installment of the Fast and Furious franchise. Of course, the possibility of spin-offs like Hobbs & Shaw is always on the table.
