Yes the Takata scandal is STILL in the news with Takata recently pleading guilty and agreeing to pay a $1 billion dollar fine. The news was announced Friday as it was revealed Takata had reached a deal with the federal government in response to the companys faulty airbags that caused injuries and deaths around the world. In addition to the $1 billion dollar fine, three Takata executives were also charged for their roles in the scandal, which is one of the largest recalls in history.

Takata has admitted that it has known about the defective airbags since the year 2000 but did not effectively fix the situation. It was also revealed that Takata produced fraudulent data to make the airbags appear safer
