Ford Patented EV’s That Start The Engines To Automatically Recharge The Battery

Ford has now patented a really great idea that’s really innovative for the EV market. The patent, which was filed in 2015 but published over the weekend, consists of technology for EV’s that start their engines to automatically recharge. Basically, it works like this. On any electrified vehicle with an onboard internal combustion engine could automatically start the engine remotely. This would then recharge its own battery.

The system won’t work in an enclosed space however and would actually send the owner a message via text to let them know the car needs to be moved to a more open space in order to charge. Motor1 reported it’s also revealed that the car will not start up automatically if the fuel level is low. Considering batteries in EV’s can lose power if they sit for a while, this would definitely be useful.
