Truck Is Launched Off USS Gerald Ford Aircraft Carrier To Test Jet Catapult System
February 11th, 2019
This. Is. Awesome. What do you get when you mix an aircraft carrier, catapult system, and test truck? This video!
This video features the United States Navy's newly developed Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System (EMALS). Basically, this is a highly sophisticated linear induction motor that allows for a more precise, flexible and smoothly calibrated acceleration process. It inflicts less stress on the aircraft's air-frame, therefore, reducing maintenance needs and likely prolonging an aircraft's effective operating life.
The USS Gerald R. Ford is the lead ship of a new class of nuclear powered American supercarriers. She was launched on November 9th, 2013 and will undertake her first deployment early this year. Check out another angle below!
