John Force Takes The Win At NHRA Gatornationals

John Force is the winningest Funny Car driver in NHRA history and has piled up quite the list of wins over the years. But at this year’s Gatornationals he clinched a special, and emotional, win. It was his 148th win as he took the win over NHRA rookie Jonnie Lindberg and a sort of tribute to his close friend and racer, Eric Medlen.

Last Sunday was the anniversary of Medlen’s fatal crash 10 years ago on the same track. Force attributes that crash to changing NHRA safety forever. After the crash, he created the Eric Medlen Foundation in hopes to learn from the accident and improve safety for future drivers. Force says some of the early safety improvements are what saved his own life when he had a similar accident in Dallas shortly after. Force ended the final race with a time of 3.928 seconds at a top speed of 328.14 miles per hour.

According to The Gainseville Sun, Force said, “I know you were with me in the final race”. This was his eighth Gatornationals win but first since 2008, so congrats to John Force!
