The Golf R Gets A Refresh With The New Performance Package

Volkswagen’s had some tough times with the dieselgate scandal, but they do have good news…the refresh of the new Golf R Performance Package. And The Drive reports it’ll be available here in the US later this year. And although it doesn’t get the same horsepower boost that the European model does, the new 7-speed transmission gives it a somewhat better time and better performance on the track. With the new performance package it’s more up to speed with the competitions like the Focus RS and Subaru WRX STI.

Volkswagen also added some features to help set it apart from the GTI, which was apparently a pretty common complaint. The Golf R now gets larger front intakes and a rear spoiler to improve downforce and give it a more aggressive look. With the performance Package the Golf R can now hit 0-60 in 4.6 seconds at a top speed of 166mph thanks to the 2.0-liter turbo under the hood. It’s speculated to sell between $30,000-40,000, so is the new performance package enough power for you VW fans?
