Ford Submits Patent for a Magnetic Truck Bed

If you’re tired of your items sliding around in your truck bed, Ford may have the solution for you.

The automaker has submitted an application to the USPTO for a “truck bed with selectively actuated magnetic floor sections” to keep your items in place while in transit.

According to the official patent, the benefit to a magnetic truck bed would be to reduce time and labor tying down objects using ropes and bungee cords, as well as reducing the risk of those objects becoming unsecured while loading, transporting, and unloading.

The patent consists of six magnets being placed underneath the truck bed, which would also allow the owner to turn them on and off through the truck’s cabin or through a mobile app.
