1962 VW Bus! – PowerNation Week #33

We’re heading back to the ‘60s this week on PowerNation with this groovy 1962 VW Microbus. We came across it in the Summit catalog and it was love at first sight. Owner Ken Prather wanted something different for his next project and this throwback to Woodstock was it. In a 4 year build Ken decided to hot rod the bus by chopping the top 7 inches, made the side door into a gull wing, suicide doors, lots of louvers, and flared fenders complete the look. What’s most astonishing about this project is the engine! Ken dropped in a Chevy 350 bored 30 over with a Weiand 6-71 supercharger that makes 600 horsepower. This baby could run the 1/4 mile! The air intake and exhaust are very creative and he left the whole package in gray primer. It rolls on Hoosier tires with American five spoke rims on the rear and ET Gasser ten spoke wheels up front. The cab is very spartan with bucket seats, a Sprint car steering wheel and Auto Meter gauges and lots of other parts from the Summit catalog. Yes there is a flower vase with a flower. One more note: Ken’s wife gave him a spoon that he fabricated into a gas pedal. It’s just one fun ride you need to check out this week on PowerNation.
