The World’s Largest Unboxing

Who doesn’t love a new trucK? Well, like a lot of three-year-old boys, Joel Jovine is a big fan. However, unlike most, Joel got to witness the largest truck unboxing in the history of the world. And as you can imagine, the kid lost his mind over it. It’s a one-of-a-kind present that came courtesy of Volvo. The automaker placed a 16-ton semi-truck inside a massive box, which earned it the first-ever Guinness World Record for the “World’s Largest Unboxing.” The entire charade was a surprise for Joel, and that video of him has already racked up nearly half a million YouTube views.

And if you aren’t that aren’t familiar with the phenomenon of “unboxing,” it’s an online trend where people film themselves opening up new products. They’ll usually examine the product’s features and give their initial approval or disapproval. But usually, the unboxings involve things like iPads and speakers, not monstrous trucks.

They got the idea for the unique stunt from a popular video where a kid dressed as Spiderman unboxes and plays with a battery-powered Spiderman toy car. That video alone received 219 million views. So the Volvo guys got to work trying to create their own viral magic. The biggest challenge? Creating the super-sized truck box. It which measured 80 feet long and 14 feet wide and was based on real toy package designs. Joel clearly was a fan of all the effort it took to make the unboxing realistic! Way to go, Volvo team!
