The Volkswagen Scandal Is Far From Being Over
By now you’ve heard of the Volkswagen emissions scandal that made the news a few years ago. Well on Wednesday, Volkswagen officially plead guilty in the U.S. for using false statements to import cars in the US and obstructing investigations when authorities became suspicious of the emission levels of their diesel engines.
Volkswagen also agreed to pay a $4.3 billion dollars in penalties, while prosecutors announced charges against five people in Germany. So far 7 men have been charged. Oliver Schmidt, who is VW’s liaison with U.S. environmental regulators, was arrested in Miami over the weekend as he was returning to Germany from vacation. Wow! To top it all off, it’s said that the investigation is still far from over which is not good news at all for Volkswagen.
