Ford Is Boosting Production on High-Demand Models like Maverick, Bronco Sport, Mustang Mach-E, and F-150 Lightning

Ford, like many major automakers, has been feeling the pinch when it comes to meeting inventory needs when customer demand has been steadily high for the last few years. In an effort to meet these expectations, Ford has announced that it will be increasing production on vehicles with very high customer demand like the Mustang Mach-E, F-150 Lightning, Bronco Sport, and Maverick.

Americans Love Ford’s Affordable Maverick and Bronco Sport

Both the Ford Maverick and the Ford Bronco Sport saw a significant increase in sales of 4.6% from 2021 to 2022. Ford’s line of SUVs resulted in 777,770 sold units in 2022 with the Broncos leading the charge, The Maverick also saw incredibly high demand, making it the No. 1 small truck in America. Customers were so adamant about getting their hands on both these models that Ford aims to increase production by over 80,000 units to alleviate its backlog of orders.

The Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning Attracted Many New Customers to go Electric

Ford’s Mustang Mach-E gave the automaker a big jolt in sales, making it the second EV manufacturer in the U.S. in 2022, with more than two-thirds of its customers coming from rival brands. As a result of heightened customer interest, Ford aims to double its hourly production of the Mustang Mach-E in an effort to produce its target of 210,000 new units by the end of 2023.

As more electric pickups continue to arrive in the marketplace, Ford’s F-150 Lightning led the “charge” as the very first one to arrive. As a result, it managed to make 15,617 sold units in 2022, making it the top-selling EV truck in the U.S. This vehicle alone also prompted the company to invest $2 billion across three of its production plants, resulting in an additional 3,200 union jobs.

In an effort to ride this wave of demand, Ford aims to ramp up production for the F-150 Lightning with a target production goal of 150,000 units in 2023. Although the plant needed to briefly shut down for a few weeks due to battery issues, Ford intends on making up for the lost time in the production line.

Ford’s F-Series Remains America’s King of Pickup Trucks

It is no coincidence that the F-150 and F-150 PowerBoost have been integral components in the F-Series’ legacy as the best-selling truck in America for 46 consecutive years. As a result of this milestone, Ford intends on holding onto this mantle by developing production strategies for both its gas and hybrid trucks at the Dearborn Truck Plant in order to meet demands.
