Why Dale Earnhardt Jr. Offered To Take A Million Dollar Pay Cut

Dale Earnhardt Jr. offered to take one for the team back when the recession hit. Literally. Jr. offered to take a million-dollar pay cut if it would help save the jobs of his Hendrick Motorsports NASCAR racing team members.

During an interview with team owner Rick Hendrick on the Dale Jr. Download podcast on NBCSN he said, “I don’t remember what was going on in the sport but everybody was a little nervous and I called him one time and told him to take a million dollars off my salary if he needed to”.

It was never clarified if the deal was ever taken but it’s been reported that during original negotiations in his contract, Earnhardt was never demanding.
