In the middle of a pursuit isn’t the time to remember you should’ve charged the patrol car. While electric cars may have a lot of good uses, this may not be one of them yet. A Tesla electric police patrol car in the Bay Area ran low on power at one of the worst possible times.

The Fremont Police Department said it was unsure why the vehicle wasn’t fully charged before heading out however, the responding officer quickly realized.

The officer driving the Tesla was pursuing a suspect wanted in connection with a crime. After confirming the plate number, the officer attempted a traffic stop. When the driver failed to yield and took off at a high rate of speed, the officer pursued them.

The officer called into dispatch saying, “Just realized I am down to six miles of battery on the Tesla, so I may lose it here in a sec”.

Luckily, other patrol cars were following and ready to jump in and help. Fremont Police report that they are still in the first 6 months of a pilot program testing out the Tesla.
