Steven Spielberg Developing New “Bullitt” Film Based on Steve McQueen’s Character Frank Bullitt
According to a report by Deadline, Hollywood Director/Producer Steven Spielberg is attached to direct a new original “Bullitt” film focused on Frank Bullitt, the San Francisco cop portrayed by Steve McQueen in the original 1968 thriller Bullitt.
Spielberg will also be producing the film with Kristie Macosko Krieger (West Side Story, Bridge of Spies), and will be written by Josh Singer (Spotlight, First Man).
Souces insist that this will not be a remake of the classic 1968 film, rather a new take on Frank Bullitt. In the original film, McQueen’s Frank Bullitt is one of San Francisco’s finest hunting down a mob boss who killed a witness under his protection. On top of the story, Bullitt is also known for having one of the greatest car chase sequences captured on film.
Steve McQueen’s son, Chad, and his granddaughter Molly McQueen will also serve as the film’s executive producers.
