Ford Debuts New “Godzilla” 7.3-Liter V8 And 10-Speed Auto For 2020 F-Series Super Duty

With the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado HD being revealed today in Michigan, Ford decided to drop some vague info regarding its new 2020 F-Series Super Duty. Ford debuted its new 7.3-liter engine codenamed Godzilla, and it features a pushrod layout. While the 7.3-liter displacement isn’t anything new, this engine certainly is and is what will power the new 2020 Ford F-Series Super Duty pickups.

The new mill features a cam-in-block pushrod design and overhead valve architecture with cast iron block and forged crankshaft. This engine is more compact and not as complex as an overhead cam layout.

Ford also revealed that the big engines will be shifted by a 10-speed automatic transmission that will replace the old six-speed. Also, new bumper and a redesigned grille will give the motors some extra breathing room.

To be clear, the gasoline 6.2-liter V8 isn’t going anywhere. The 6.7-liter Power Stroke diesel V8 will still be available with new injectors and an improved variable-geometry turbocharger. Upgrades have also been made to the block, head, connecting rods, pistons, and bearings.

Ford plans to be “most powerful gas V8 in its class” with its new 2020 Super Duty, but no numbers have been released just yet. It does say that it will be more powerful than the 2019 model, and will definitely have improved towing and payload capabilities. We will have to wait a little longer to find out numbers.

If you’re towing a large trailer, the truck now makes it easier to manuever it with Pro Trailer Backup Assist. It also will have 4G LTE modem that will allow for up to 10 devices to connect to the Wifi along with wireless charging pad among other things.

Standard for the XLT and above are Lane-Keeping Alert, Blind Spot Information, Pedestrian Detection, Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking.
