Dozens Of High-Performance Cars Looted From California Dodge Dealership Amidst Riots

Cities across America have been faced with riots and protests, some leading to looting. Police in Northern California are searching for suspects after rioters reportedly stole more than 70 high-performance cars from a dealership after looters shattered the showroom windows to snatch keys. The loss is estimated to be in the millions of dollars.

Looters separated themselves from peaceful protesters – who were in the Bay Area demanding justice after the death of George Floyd.

Carlos Hidalgo, owner of San Leandro Chrysler Dodge Jeep dealership told local news Fox 2 that exits in and out of the dealership are typically blocked as a precaution however, rioters “started ramming, ramming until they could get out. They took out chains and fence posts.”

Cell phone video shows some of what happened Sunday night at the dealership. You can see Dodge Demons and Hellcats, among other vehicles leaving the lot. Nearly all of the dealership’s $90,000 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcats were stolen. The cars that weren’t taken, were damaged. At the end of it all, 74 vehicles were gone.

Looters broke into the showroom, opened the lockbox, and took the car keys, hitting alarm buttons to see what key went with which car.

While police say they have recovered at least 15 cars, that still leaves more than 50 unaccounted for. Some were recovered in the Bay Area and some 150 miles with several being chopped for parts.

For now, the dealership says it has hired armed guards for the foreseeable future. Losses and damage are estimated at $5 million.
