Joey Logano Takes Home First Career Championship Win At Homestead-Miami Speedway

Joey Logano piloted his No. 22 Ford Fusion to victory Sunday night taking home the 2018 Monster Energy NASCAR Championship. It was Logano’s third victory of the season, and his first ever at the 1.5-mile Homestead-Miami Speedway. This is his 21st career win, but his very first well-deserved championship victory.

It was a nail-biting race between Logano, Martin Truex Jr., Kevin Harvick, and Kyle Busch, known as The Big Three also running for the championship title. Logano was the only one who hadn’t won a championship title out of the four. With two wins prior, he did secure his spot in the Championship 4 by winning in Martinsville, the opening race in Round 8.

After Daniel Suarez’s Toyota Camry took a spin out of the race, a caution was thrown. This allowed for Kyle Busch to freshen up on new rubber with just 20 laps to go. Truex then took the lead from Busch with Logano coming in hot. With just 12 laps left, Logano shot past Truex and kept the lead until the checkered flag was thrown awarding Logano his first Cup Series title.

It was the first and last victory for the Ford Fusion as it will be replaced by the Mustang in the Cup Series. This makes for Penske’s second championship – the first one by Brad Keselowski in 2012 beating out Clint Bowyer and Jimmie Johnson.

Congrats to Joey Logano for your first career championship win!
