Ford Is Investing $1 Billion Towards Their Self-Driving Car

A few days ago Ford announced it invested $1 billion dollars in an AI company to build the brain for its self-driving car. The company, Argo AI, is an artificial intelligence and robotics startup founded by two former leaders from Google and Uber.

Bryan Salesky worked for years on Google’s autonomous car project and Peter Rander was in charge of Uber’s self-driving efforts until late last year. Google and Uber are both working on their own autonomous vehicle programs. So with Ford now having the expertise of former employees from both companies, there’s some serious competition. With the recent $1 billion dollar investment, it makes Ford the majority owner of Argo AI. Although Ford owns most of the company, Argo AI will still be able to act independently which means it can license its autonomous software to other manufacturers.
